Murder suspect Richard Dean enters plea for second degree murder

One more trial confirmation was scheduled for murder, assault and robbery suspect Richard Dean.
Jury trial scheduled for March 23 was vacated since Dean finally entered a change of plea today for second degree murder.

If you have not read the last three detailed posts, the summary is that Dean had until 3 p.m. to accept the 15 years to life offer he made to the People which was accepted and agreed to by the DA's office and the victims.

As I had mentioned in an earlier post, Dean entered a guilty plea to murder. Rest of the charges in the homicide case and the murder and assault case was dismissed. Sentencing is on April 30.

Victim in the homicide case is Anthony Pennucci.

Deputy District Attorney Stacey Eads is the prosecutor for this case. Deputy Public Defender  Ben McLaughlin is Dean's attorney.

The preliminary hearing was waived in the homicide case. Ms. Eads provided a factual basis. Dean did not know Pennucci. He showed up at Pennucci's door, knocked, when Pennucci opened the door, Dean stabbed him.

Both Mr. McLaughlin and Dean's aunt mentioned Dean was suffering ftom mental health issues at the time he stabbed Oennucci.

Dean's aunt, sister and two other people were in court.
