Monterey Bay Community Power takes over local control from PG & E promising cleaner energy & lower rates

"With the flip of a solar-powered lantern switch, Monterey Bay Community Power CEO Tom Habashi officially marked the first day of service for the tri-county clean energy provider at Monterey City Hall on Thursday."

"The agency is backed by a joint powers authority representing all but two cities in Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito counties, and is taking over local control of electric power purchasing authority from PG&E in an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through buying cleaner energy while promising customers similar or lower power rates than those charged by PG&E by cutting out the private company's corporate profit margin."
