Humboldt County faces potential lawsuit over unconstitutional countywide lockdown

God Bless America is playing. People are honking in support of citizens gathered in front of the Courthouse. There has been overwhelming support from people driving by.

Today, for the second time citizens gathered in front of the Humboldt County Courthouse since the local shelter in place order and the statewide stay at home order was implemented.

One group was organized by Humboldt County Conservatives' Lesa Christensen. The other by Open Humboldt. People here today belong to both groups.

About 300 people either stood outside the Courthouse, sat in their cars or drove around in the cars since 9 a.m. Some people came and left and had to return to work.

Around 12:20, Ms. Christensen made some remarks. "98 percent of people survive this; not one death in Humboldt. Without us, there is no community."

"We are not Democrat. We are not Republican. We are here for jobs. We are here for our constitutional rights."

"The County cannot do a Countywide lockdown of healthy people. That is unconstitutional. Governor Newsom said heed, not will. Counties are copying each other health orders.," said Ms. Christensen.

I know Humboldt did look at Mendocino health order but tailored the local order to Humboldt.

"Other business owners are scared to put their name on a potential lawsuit and I am willing to be the face of the lawsuit." Ms.Christensen has hired constitutional attorney  Mark Meuser. The County has until the end of May 1 or they will receive demand letter with intent to sue. Contact Ms. Christensen via Facebook or Humboldt County Conservatives if you want to be a part of the lawsuit.

The only Supervisor communicating with Ms. Christensen has been First District Supervisor Rex Bohn. He was out here this morning and came out again at noon.

"I am happy it is a beautiful day and that people are out expressing their First Amendment rights," said Fourth District Supervisor Virginia Bass who has been here since noon. She just walked by people but did not talk to anyone.

Second District Supervisor Estelle Fennell stepped out briefly but did not talk with the citizens gathered.

This gentleman expressed sentiments echoed by others that all businesses are essential; open up local, businesses. He asked when Humboldt became so draconian? "The only good thing about this is that it has brought God and family together."

I will add more photos around noon.
