Is the City of Arcata keeping Josiah Lawson's family better informed than this lame PR?
The City of Arcata sends out another press release on the unsolved murder of Josiah Lawson releasing absolutely nothing significant or new about the case.
Information in this press release has already been reported. Instead of taking initiative to to follow up on the case and ask tough questions, most "media" just print the PR release for the City of Arcata.
If the City of Arcata and HSU was really concerned about the public and people of color, they would have addressed the issue of violence and off campus parties with house owners and party organizers who think it is okay to be unaccountable for consequences fromalcohol and drug fueled parties.
The City of Arcata and HSU should have organized a healing forum. Instead of the police, students and community attacking each other, a facilitator could do some much needed education and mediating to heal decades of hurt and mistrust.
It is so much easier to assauge guilt and fake political concern with empty words and throw money at a reward that has resulted in nothing.
APD's Devin Nilsen arrested Kyle Zoellner on the say so of the crowd. Sending one officer to respond to a rowdy party and respond to a serious call was a mistake. The crime scene was not secured. The two officers who arrived and were administering life saving efforts had to deal with an unruly crowd.
The City of Arcata and HSU made it worse by allowing drama by people on both sides with no personal involvement in this case to rush an arrest and premature preliminary hearing.

ReplyDelete"As an update to the investigation the City has finalized an initial review of all the evidence with an outside investigator retired from the FBI. This review resulted in an investigative report and several suggested next steps including additional evidence testing that are underway."
Translated, that means they got nuthin'.
