"I don't understand how I can be charged with cruelty to children"

1.675 million dollar bail set for Orick murder suspect Ronald Loureiro.  When Visting Judge LaCasse asked him if he understood the charges filed, Loureiro kept saying, "I don't understand how I can be charged with cruelty to children."

Loureiro had no problem understanding his rights or the process of getting an appointed attorney. He was arrested December 16 on other charges.

Bail can be increased or lowered at future dates. This was a late arraignment. Based on information he had at time of the arraignment, Visiting Judge Leonard LaCasse initially said, "no bail at this time", but at the request of Deputy District Attorney Joel Buckingham, he set this amount today.

Charges are listed in post below.
Charges include three alleged John Does ages 8, 6 and 2 years old.

Conflict Counsel's office was appointed. Intervention scheduled for January 11. Preliminary scheduled for January 17.
