Matthew Owen no longer running for Eureka City Council

From Matthew Owen, an email he just sent to the City:

"Pam -

For the past six months I have been actively attempting to recruit local citizens to step up and run for Eureka City Council.

Due to my busy work schedule, being Rotary Club President along with all my other commitments and the fact the two candidates came forward today, I hereby recind my candidacy."

Chet Albin has also withdrawn, according to the City Press Release.

So Heidi Messner is now the Councilmember elect for Ward 2.

As I was posting, this was confirmed by the City press release:

The following nominees have qualified for the ballot for offices of the City of Eureka, at the General 
Municipal Election to be held November 8, 2016. The nomination period for Ward 2 is now closed. 
Nominations will be accepted for Ward 4 until 5 P.M. on Wednesday, August 17, 2016. 
Please note that Matthew Owen and Chet Albin who had previously qualified for the ballot has 
withdrawn their nominations and will not appear on the ballot for Ward 2.
