To be safe from danger, you have to know where it exists. Humboldt has been fortunate, so far,not to experience the violent clashes occurring in other parts of California and the country from political differences.
As the effects of COVID 19 and this election continue and will for a while, will Humboldt remain safe?
I get my share of anonymous comments but I don't encourage them, I moderate and I call out inaccurate information.
Unlike most local media, people know who I am, they know how to reach me. I am not a coward hiding behind some desk ignoring inconvenient news.
My blog provides news people don't find elsewhere and that includes moderate and conservative voices. The rest of the local media has not only superficially reported on recent news which is historic but they don't risk anything by reporting on MAGA.
Once again, simply for doing my job, I get attacked. The anons and strangers are easy to dismiss. They don't know me. Most people in Humboldt, even after 18 years, have a lot of assumptions about me because they haven't bothered to look beyond their own selfish agenda, biases or taken the time.
What shocks me is that people who I have known for years, while they haven't attacked me yet, are still sending me messages that you may think only people in Georgia or Alabama believe. These people are reaching out in an effort to be heard but they are sending me debunked information from the internet. They are reaching out because they have been shut out by other media, elected officials and others in their community.
These are business people and those actively involved in politics and the community.
So far, these messages are venting about the left and people believing every lie on Parler and other bunk sources about the stolen election and everything Trump says. What concerns me is the complete lack of remorse about January 6 riots and the determination to fund, support and participation in MAGA rallies that have the potential to go awry. How is anyone to predict when this dissent could turn into something more?
The people communicating with me aren't the ones I am concerned about; it is the people in Humboldt that talk in the local Parler type online groups and anonymously on certain "news sites" and in private. People who showed up on January 6 at the U.S. Capitol included people you don't expect; a CEO, a lawyer, police officers.
Those people know I am pro law and wouldn't send me messages because they know I would report to law enforcement. I can only hope my local tipsters who are good at stleath and who may have access to the rantings of such people will warn law enforcement. People need to step up. Don't expect me to fight your battles or always take risks. This is your community.
People who rant about censhorship or moderation need to educate themselves about the First Amendment, freedom of speech.
Misdirecting anger at your fellow conservatives and Republicans who follow God, law, country and Constitution are the real patriots. Blaming the left and anyone who disagrees with you for your problems and ignorance is your issue.
People contact me because they have been ignored by other local media and by the very local institutions and people who should protect them. I still maintain my regional as well as national media and political contacts.
I also know a lot of moderates and those who identify as liberal and progressive, and have known them for years. And they too trust me. Never assume who my sources are.
Except for a small group of vocal, divisive, manipulative people in business, politics, or any other group, there are a lot of good people, in Humboldt and the country.
To heal, unify and be safe, you need to listen to people who know where the danger and hate is and who have the guts to expose it. And, invest in those who build bridges, find common ground and who owe you nothing yet you benefit daily from them.
We are polarized because dark money funds the tools in media, politics and business that profit from hate and distraction and manipulation is how they keep us divided.
I lived in Philadelphia and Pennsylvania. I lived in Atlanta and Georgia. I know both the urban and rural areas and mindset in areas all over the country. I know Humboldt well. I have been here 18 years. I have perspective because I have traveled all over this country and internationally.
I built a following on this blog because I have a knack for news. I saw the potential in covering courts years ahead. Copy me all you want but you won't get the same results. I have access to information others don't because I have people who trust me and people who know I am effective.
I adapt to ever changing dynamic. This blog does more than report news. I make a difference in the community, in people's lives and get results for those who invest and believe in me.
I don't have a static formula like the other local media. What I report is based on many factors.
The law, the correct and a good lawyer, relevant and accurate information and reaching out to the correct people makes a difference in life, in business and your safety.
