"This is his legacy preying on the innocence of children"

First Jane Doe's mother spoke, then Jane Doe and then her stepfather before molestor John Beideman was sentenced this morning. All were emotional but the most visible emotion was in Jane Doe, her voice soft but powerful.

Jane Doe's mother:

"While I prefer the defendant gets a larger and harsher sentence, I firmly stand by daughter's choice to take the plea deal" so she can move on with her life.

"When the defendant and I divorced, he sued to get access to my daughter."

"He would not take no for an answer," she said. Beideman sent cards, emails despite pleas to stop. He told other people that he was waiting for Jane Doe to turn 18 so he could tell his side of the story. Beideman was ordered to have no contact with Jane Doe after the divorce.

"The defendant is a story teller and he has woven a falsehood" said Jane Doe's mother. This was in reference to Beideman spinning his version.

"My daughter hid the truth to protect me. She lived with horrific abuse."

"This is his legacy preying on the innocence of children"

Jane Doe:

Jane Doe said in 2004, she was four years old and "John Beideman" came into my life".  "At the age of five, this man who was supposed to be my father figure" ripped her childhood "when he regularly began to molest me."

She spoke about the social anxiety, the self harm, the effects on her life and family.

"He normalized his actions into a bedtime ritual. "

"In an attempt to protect my family, I internalized my victimization."

"The scars I left on my arm were not enough."

Jane Doe's stepfather:

"Mr. Beideman has physically and emotionally scarred my daughter."
"Given this plea, he should not be allowed parole until he legally admits.

He said his wife now questions every decision about raising her daughter and her ability as a parent and a wife.
