California Supreme Court Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye said she is leaving the Republican party on December 16.
She told CALmatters that she had been deliberating her decision for a while but made up her mind after the confirmation of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
In the past, she has spoken up against President Trump's attacks on Judges and the detention of undocumented immigrants.
