Setting of jury trial and confirmation of counsel for Chad Smith was scheduled for April 6. It was continued to April 12.
Anakalia "Andrea" Kaluna Sullivan, who represents Joe Olivo III, (mostly practicing out of Lake and Mendocino County) has accepted the court appointment to represent Smith.
Smith's bail is two million, six hundred and fifty thousand. He wants a bail reduction.
That issue was never heard at the last hearing because Smith decided he wanted a Marsden motion and lost another court appointed attorney.
That attorney, Ms. Christina Allbright, specially appeared for Ms. Sullivan today.
Smith is charged with molesting his own stepdaughter and her friend.
Deputy District Attorney Carolyn Schaffer appeared in court today for Deputy DA Stacey Eads who is prosecuting the case.

ReplyDeleteYay! Another new Attorney for Chadmo... at least until his next Marsden. What a pretty penny WE are paying for “out of area” representation now. All for a narcissistic, manipulative CHILD ABUSER. Now, per the Status Quo, in the Humboldt County Courts, we will have yet another continuance. The April 12th date will most likely be vacated, (unless he can use it for a bail hearing). His NEW Attorney will need time to review this Chomo’s case. What’s the Attorney count on him now? Should we place wagers on how many more Attorneys he goes through before he is satisfied? NO, because this isn’t really game, or is it? What makes him so special, that he is allowed to call the shots like this? This behavior isn’t tolerated by other criminals, is it? He is an adult man, accused of having SEXUAL INTERCOURSE AND AS WELL AS OTHER SEXUAL BEHAVIOR/ABUSE WITH A YOUNG CHILD! Let’s all take a moment to let that sink in. It’s not pretty. It’s horrendously ugly!

ReplyDeleteHe is nothing special, despite his personal beliefs, but look at all the “special” treatment he is receiving. Marsden, Marsden, continuance after continuance, (excessive continuances are very common in the Humboldt County Court system. Check it yourself if need be) and Chadmo’s manipulations seem to be are be successful and endless! If he is innocent, why not just have all of his “innocent evidence” presented? He could walk free, instead of the resorting to this petty BS to drag it out. Maybe the “three hots and a cot are pretty nice here at the County Jail. I don’t have any personal information to say either way . I can’t be the only person who wonders why he is allowed to demand and receive these ridiculous accommodations. Can we have an accounting of how much WE are paying for his legal manipulations? I think we deserve an invoice showing our financial responsibility, perhaps headlined “Special Pretty Boy Chadmo Attorney Fees”? I don’t mind paying for the Jail costs at all though. Judge Reinholtsen reduces his bail and he’s out walking the streets, (and I am certain, violating the RESTRAINING ORDERS over, and over again like before he was arrested) there should be community outrage. (When is it going to be enough? Kitchen, Dare, to name two that quickly come to mind).

ReplyDeleteIf I am remembering correctly, some of Chadmo’s charges are pertaining to the multiple violations of his RESTRAINING ORDERS. I hope his previous violations will be strongly considered, during a bail reduction hearing. A RESTRAINING ORDER is only a few pieces of paper. That is what will be between him and his victims again, if he is released. Those “papers” didn’t stop him before. Jail walls are the only way to assure they are safe, and free from his abuse and harassment.
Chadmo, has certainly been coached by someone, on how to play the game of Court manipulation. Judge Reinholtsen seems fine with his outrageous demands. I, for one, wonder if Judge Reinholtsen is allowing Chadmo’s behavior, because it’s easier. He is retiring this year. Hmmmm. Frankly though, as long as he keeps Chadmo LOCKED UP, that’s ALMOST acceptable.
Meanwhile, victims are systemically being let down by the Courts. All victims of crime, are waiting for their case to be heard as well. This is a tremendously difficult time for victims. They must prepare emotionally. There will be many, very difficult days of testimony, in front of a room of mostly strangers. On the stand they must testify about some very dramatic and uncomfortable things. The victims are sitting in front of the man, who in this case, severely abused her, but called it love. The man who was suppose to love her as a daughter, but instead groomed her to be an object for his own twisted sexual “needs”. The man who violated her physically and psychologically and stole her childhood.
How many times should we as a community, let this happen to victims. Not just this case, but all of the cases, being granted excessive continuances.
When even the Court can be manipulated like this, it sends a “message” (fear) that the criminal is still in control.
If you don’t understand the terror of crime victims, consider yourself very lucky. It is something that changes your life. Someone needs to take control and stop criminals and Attorneys. All victims need to start putting the pieces of their lives together and be able to move on.
At least Chadmo is still locked up, for the moment. How Kitchen and Dare, to name two, are walking on the streets right now is baffling. I guess it’s all about who you know around here.
