Grandma who was arrested for leaving two year old grandchild in locked car released from custody despite objection by the DA

Katherine Perri, who was arrested at Bear River Casino and charged with leaving her two year old grandchild in a locked car she she went into the casino to gamble, was released from custody today, despite objections from the People, represented in court today by Deputy District Attorney Luke Bernthal.

Probation recommended supervised release and Visiting Judge Marjorie Carter followed that recommendation, after hearing from Perri's attorney, Conflict Counsel's Mr. Marek Reavis. She was ordered by the Judge to have no contact with Jane Doe, who is in CWS custody.

"Thank you, Thank you," Perri said to Mr. Reavis as she left the courtroom with tears in her eyes.

No criminal history and "it's unlikely that this behavior" will reoccur, said Mr. Reavis.
"This is a crime of negligence, it was not willful. She is not a danger to the community. She is not going to go out and find babies" to leave in a car.

No other media was in court.
