"Some DNA results have come back which led us needing to submit more for analysis. We are still waiting for those results. We have a solid investigative lead in this case and there is no reason to believe this person is a threat to the public. The investigation continues and we hope to deliver a thorough and complete case to the DA as soon as feasible. "
In my initial coverage of this early on, I had mentioned a name, "word on the street" tip.
Three years later after my post which was in 2016, that same name was later mentioned online by someone claiming to be Jennika's relative. That person is in prison.
EPD has not named who this suspect is. I sent a follow up email to EPD asking if the lead is this specific person.
"I can only confirm names of people who have a warrant for or have been arrested for a crime," said Ms. Powell.
