David Orluck arrested by HCSO for false imprisonment, sex offenses and domestic violence

**There is no restriction from the Ninth Circuit ruling to post a photo from social media, in this case Instagram. Transparent California does not have current information but a google search lists Orluck working for the County as a Senior Environmental Analyst. Any of this information is available on google. Local internet sleuths post online booking photos on other sites without repercussions. They can also look up what I included which is allowed**

David Joseph Orluck arrested yesterday evening by HCSO for PC 236 false imprisonment PC 243.4(a) sexual battery, PC 289(a)(1) (a) forcible sexual penetration with a foreign object, PC 287(c)(2)(a) forcible oral copulation and  PC 273.5(a) domestic violence.

Orluck posted bond.

Two LA judges admonished by CJP for they way they treated small claim litigants and prospective jurors

(Judge Griego: Daily Journal)

(Judge Bryant-Deason: Daily Journal)

I have included the press release and a few pages from the public admonishment. The California Commission on Judicial Performance has the complete documents online.

All these admonishments do nothing. Even censure and removing a judge from the bench is ineffective. In addition, make them pay and dock their paycheck. Civil penalties are more effective.

This is a LA judge to prospective jurors.

"Why did you want to come here and live?" "You don't speak English." "You're not doing anything in our society."

18 year old robbery and criminal threats suspect Jack Nye jury trial scheduled for July

18 year old robbery and criminal threats suspect Jack Nye was arraigned today on information. Readiness Conference is on 7/2; jury trial on 7/13.

I just did a post on May 9 which has links to previous posts. The charges for jury trial are included below.

I covered Derek Barnett's case since his arrest, the Humboldt case is irrelevant since he is headed to federal custody, however Judge Cockrum released him from custody today

I covered Derek Barnett since his arrest. I reported in December 2025, the FBI taking over his case.

Deputy District Attorney Whitney Timm is the prosecutor for this case but since she has been in trials back to back, Deputy DA Roger Reees has appeared on the case and today, Deputy District Attorney Carolyn Schaffer.

Today, in CR2403934,  Barnett's preliminary  continued DA to 6/12 for setting + status of transport since Barnett is facing charges in federal court.

In CR2601350, Barnett entered a plea to disobeying a court order and was sentenced to 6 months probation, a stay away from Dow's Prairie Elementary School, sentenced to 20 days in jail with credit for time served and won't have to several fines by Humboldt Superior Court Judge Kaleb Cockrum. He was released from custody on this case and is no longer in jail according to jail records.

Court minutes have more details.

Deputy Conflict Counsel RJ Leohner is Barnett's attorney.

5/22/26: Barnett was transferred to FBI custody and is in jail in San Francisco. When I did the post, the Humboldt jail records weren't available until this morning. I checked Vinelink.

Katherine Zacevich released from custody since DA did not file charges

Repeat offender Katherine Zacevich got a break yesterday. She was released per PC 849.5.

I was on the second floor yesterday and checked several times to see if charges were filed. Zacevich was on the must go list and if she was not arraigned, she would be released from custody.

I already knew this by 1:30 p.m. but I checked until 2:40 p.m. to make sure. While I was on the second floor checking on cases including Zacevich, her mother came into the room where there are public access computers because she did not see Zacevich's name on the calendar. She went into Courtroom 5 and left.

First Apellate District partially reverses Judge Kelly Neel's ruling in juvenile case

A reader sent me an email summarizing the partial reversal of a ruling by Humboldt Superior Court Presiding Judge Kelly Neel.

The screenshots above are of page 1 and 2 of the actual ruling. You can compare it to the summary and opinion of the reader.

This is how you provide a tip and the proper use of contact information I provide.

Reader's email to me:

"On May 7/8, 2026, the First District Court of Appeal (A173461, certified for publication) reversed Humboldt County Superior Court Judge Kelly Neel's dismissal of dependency petitions for two young siblings. The case involved a 2-year-old hospitalized with a femur fracture and malnutrition (severe growth failure, deficiencies, diluted formula). While the court upheld the dismissal on the injury counts due to conflicting evidence, it found the evidence compelled jurisdiction on the malnutrition risk as a matter of law. The opinion notes issues with the trial court's evaluation of the evidence and parent's insight.

Full opinion here: [link]. This seems like a significant child welfare matter in Humboldt County. PDF attached."

Fortuna PD provided additional details about Elizabeth Tsarnas' arrest I requested

On May 17, I reported on Elizabeth Tsarnas' arrest. I included booking charges, her prior conviction and that she was released on O.R.

https://johnchiv.blogspot.com/2026/05/elizabeth-tsarnas-arrested-by-fortuna.html?m=1

Fortuna Police Department Officer Seth Watson did not get the message I left until today. He promptly called me back and directed me to Lt. Jason Kadle per FPD policy.

Lt. Kadle provided the additional details about her arrest I requested. "We received a call into our dispatch center for an unwanted person at a residence in the 1300 Block of Weber Street in Fortuna. Officer responded and contacted Mrs. Tsarnas and she was arrested pursuant to a private person arrest form was signed by the victim, and then Mrs. Tsarnas was transported to the Humboldt County Jail and booked for violation of Penal code Sections 240/242."

Attempted murder suspect hires Ken Bareilles and gets remanded into custody; should have kept his public defender

Attempted murder and DUI suspect Vincent Edward Nelson was remanded in court yesterday. Alleged victim in attempted murder case is Christopher Scott Thomson II.

Humboldt Superior Court Judge Lawrence Killoran granted Senior Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees' request for remand yesterday. Ken Bareilles made a general appearance and the Public Defender was relieved. Amended bail was stricken yesterday.

Hiring Ken Bareilles didn't work well for Nelson, did it?

OR bail is tomorrow. Trial setting on 6/2 in DUI case and preliminary hearing in attempted murder case.

Nelson has 25 search results in Humboldt Superior Court.

More waste of time with uneccessary continuances multiple times a week in Humboldt criminal cases

I just did a post on Christopher Diven and Rosalyn Klock so you can check the previous post where these updates have also been added.

Diven has 4 cases. One case scheduled on 5/20 was continued to 5/22 before the May 20 date. The rest of his cases remained on calendar on 5/20 only to be continued to 5/22 by defense.

This kind of inefficiency and multiple continuances in one week and in several cases with multiple defendants has been happening for weeks and months now.

Who is to blame? More than one person. Other than inefficiency from Humboldt Superior Court, some attorneys and public defenders are reshuffling too many dates and they can't even do that for all the cases.

This inefficiency and chaos just needs to be fixed. It is not hard to see that a defendant has more than one case.

In Klock's case, pre trial in her criminal case was continued from yesterday to today because Gregory Kreis was not present. This is at least the second case I have seen where Kreis was not present, I am not digging through all my posts for the other case. In the 12 years of covering local courts, I have seen one or two instances of an attorney in a criminal case not being present in cases I cover. It isn't the same attorney twice. Gregory Kreis is a court appointed private attorney. There are other court appointed private attorneys like Ms. Rebecca Linkous and Paul Gallegos who have more cases and they show up for court. Mr. Gallegos, even when he has an ongoing trial. The pre trial should have just been rescheduled from 5/20 to the 5/29 sentencing hearing in two of her cases. Today, in CR2601890, the case was dismissed by People in interest of justice. This could have been done on 5/29.

All these pre trials are not resulting in less hearings and efficiency. They just create more work for court staff and since I am the one to update the public on most cases; cost me time and money.

Judges in criminal cases need to start holding not present accountable. In civil cases, attorneys have to tell why they did not show up.

I am not sure why a pre trial was continued to the next day. This is why every day, the court calendar is unreasonable.

Criminal cases are the ones always causing chaos in Humboldt Superior Court creating backlogs. The judges and court administration need to get together and figure out a solution.

Court appointed private attorneys get paid by the taxpayers. I know it is hard to get court appointed attorneys but maybe the search needs to be expanded beyond Humboldt and the local insider legal clique.

I was the only one to report on Jon Goldberg's resentencing. Today, there was a hearing scheduled for clarification of sentence PC 1172.1 (a) (1) and it continued by court to tomorrow. No minutes are in the system so I don't know the reason but this is an example of another added hearing, after a ruling, and another next day continuance. Google PC 1172.1(a) (1).

This is how even a day where I think there are three cases multiply into 10 or more and a light day like that is rare.

At this time, certain details cannot be released in order to protect the integrity of the investigation. HCSO asks the public to avoid speculation and to rely on official updates from law enforcement."

HCSO Lt. Jesse Taylor just issued a press release about the Miranda's rescue investigation.

You can read the entire press release.

Here is a key paragraph. "At this time, certain details cannot be released in order to protect the integrity of the investigation. HCSO asks the public to avoid speculation and to rely on official updates from law enforcement."

HCSO Press Release:

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) continues to actively investigate the Miranda’s Rescue case and remains committed to pursuing every available lead related to this investigation. Detectives and investigators are working diligently with partner agencies, reviewing evidence, conducting follow-up interviews, and responding to information provided by members of the public.

HCSO recognizes the significant concern this case has generated throughout Humboldt County and beyond. We understand the emotional impact this investigation has had on community members, supporters, and those closely connected to Miranda’s Rescue. The Sheriff’s Office shares these concerns and wants the public to know that this case remains a priority.

Since the investigation began, HCSO has received numerous tips and pieces of information from the community. Every tip received is carefully documented, assessed, and followed up on by investigators.

“At the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, we understand the public’s desire for answers and accountability,” said Lt. Jesse Taylor. “Our investigators are committed to thoroughly examining all evidence and pursuing every credible lead. We appreciate the patience, support, and assistance we have received from the community during this ongoing investigation.”

At this time, certain details cannot be released in order to protect the integrity of the investigation. HCSO asks the public to avoid speculation and to rely on official updates from law enforcement.

Anyone with information related to the Miranda’s Rescue case is encouraged to contact the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Tip Line at (707) 268-2539. Additionally, you can submit information anonymously at the following email address: hso@co.humboldt.ca.us

Additional updates will be provided as information becomes available.

Many people read this post I did yesterday.

https://johnchiv.blogspot.com/2026/05/i-gave-jody-honsal-benefit-of-doubt-once.html?m=1

Lost Coast Outpost, Times Standard and Redheaded Blackbelt and their irresponsible, clickbait about Miranda's Rescue fueled this speculation. More waste of law enforcement time.

It has more serious consequences for others. I won't speak for others and what was shared in confidence about their experiences with this angry mob mentality but this irresponsible clickbait has resulted in harassment and threats to me from angry, hateful people who are not my regular readers. They are clueless about what news and reporting is and at least one person made threats which I have reported to law enforcement, the DA and consulted with lawyers.

These people want to silence what is not their preferred narrative. Freedom of speech does not allow you to be above the law. After what happened to Charlie Kirk and attacks against journalists and independent reporting; I have valid reasons to be concerned about my safety. People recognize me and I walk around town.

I have let so many lies and smears slide. This toxic, lawless, cowardly anon and non anon behavior in Humboldt is enabled by local, irresponsible "media" and every one who stays silent.

Before the anti Shannon Miranda and pro Miranda crowd start their drama again, Lost Coast Outpost's convoluted Miranda's rescue clickbait today is mostly old information. I reported twice when HCSO was  at Shannon Miranda's property and it was live coverage and scoops. I got information from HCSO.

The other media sat around for days about Miranda's Rescue. From Day 1, I said instead of speculation; wait for official information.

I am the only one who got comment from Shannon Miranda and I spoke to Jennifer Raymond. I was nice enough not to post about Jennifer Raymond's trespass that she shared with me that evening and I advised her to contact a lawyer before speaking further. LOCO mentioned what is in an affadavit and yet failed to include said affadavit. I include court documents including Ramey warrants so readers can see the information for themselves.

I also knew some of what was taken from Shannon Miranda's property. Did I post it right after the second raid? I did not. I said yesterday, HCSO has not released any official statement. No criminal charges have been filed. No civil lawsuits have been filed. If LOCO actually wanted to investigate, they would see if HCSO has any potential conflicts in conducting this investigation. They would get a comment from Humboldt County Sheriff  William Honsal about his wife commenting on Facebook twice on an account which belongs to an involved party instigating this investigation.

That would actually require LOCO to have guts and do actual journalism instead of regurgitating an old press release and statements from biased parties.

Maybe LOCO could do some actual investigative reporting and ask Jennifer Raymond if this is her.

https://mendovoice.com/2025/07/mendocino-water-tower-lawsuits/

Unless there is another "Jennifer Raymond who lives in Ferndale and co-owns the property with her brother. "

LOCO et al do not know how to create engaging, original content. If they actually worked and did shoe leather journalism, they would be exhausted by the end of the day.

These local "media" cater to the lowest denominator. Did the Bored Housewives of Fortuna and the desperate attention seeking and selfish "activists" consider that Lt. Taylor and HCSO are not their personal employees and police force? There is no shortage of crime in Humboldt County. Or news.

If Jennifer Raymond and her cohorts are so concerned about animals, then they should spend more time adopting and saving those who are living, take them home instead of posting incessantly on Facebook and giving interviews. If they have had these concerns about Shannon Miranda, why didn't they go to the shelters and adopt and save hundreds of animals?

Since Jenna Moore and Jennifer Raymond think HCSO has all this time, HCSO should investigate all businesses in Humboldt involved with the care of animals and make sure the animals are being taken care of properly and books are in order. Maybe start with Humboldt Spay/Neuter Clinic and Kilby Kountry Large and Animal Rescue?

There are people in Humboldt who leave their dogs chained with no room to move. I will give one example on one major road in Myrtletown where for days I saw these dogs whimpering, with no visible food and water, left outside in the freezing winter day and night even when it rained. For days, people walked past these animals. Until I called HCSO animal control, these dogs would bark until exhausation. People who lived in that neighborhood for years just ignored and did nothing. The dogs were never taken out for walks. Owners never checked on them. HCSO animal control came and checked on the dogs. Maybe if Jennifer Raymond put some of the money she has towards living animals and human beings in need now and do it when she does not get her 15 seconds of fame, I would give a damn about what she thinks.

That is not the only time I have had to call Animal Control. I see plenty of homeless and drug addicts dragging and abusing their dogs in downtown Eureka, kicking dogs who stopped to take a shit and have upset stomachs from holding it in for who knows how long? Why? Because their abusive druggie boyfriend wants to get his fix and yell at her and the dog and is in a rush get to where his useless homies are. I called EPD Animal Control recently about a situation in the daytime on 4th street where people just walked and drove by while this guy kicked the dog repeatedly and the woman just stood there. EPD did go out and check. This was right near the Humboldt County Public Defender's office. Activists who give animals to those who cannot properly feed themselves or have shelter and people who beat and kick these helpless animals are animal abusers.

When Jennifer Raymond and Jenna Moore rescue, adopt and save dogs like the ones I had to call HCSO and EPD Animal Control about and do so without attention and publicity; that is rescuing animals.

LOCO, RHBB, TS catered to gossip and speculation from privileged, self absorbed white women when there is no shortage of actual news to cover.

Jayson Mehler resolves child pornography case with a guilty plea and added Count 3

Alleged molestor Jayson Ray Russell Mehler entered a plea today in his 2025 case. This is before a preliminary hearing. Sentencing is on 6/10.

I spell his name as listed in the complaint by the DA and not the jail log and records.

Mehler pleaded guilty to Count 2 PC 311.11(a) (1) possession of child pornography and an added Count 3 PC 288.2 (a) (2) sending sexual material to a minor. Count 1 PC 288.3 (a) contacting a minor for a sex offense was dismissed by the People.

Wanted felon Troy Brinson no match for EPD; nabbed and booked with assistance of the community

Eureka Police Department just released information about the arrest of wanted felon Troy Brinson for probation violation, drug charges and trespassing. EPD thanked community members who called in with information and assisted officers in apprehending Brinson.

Alleged molestor Edward Neagu charged with 7 felonies and one misdemeanor

Alleged molestor Edward Neagu charged with 7 felonies and one misdemeanor. The complaint only lists one victim, John Doe.

Deputy District Attorney Carolyn Schaffer is appearing on the case at arraignment.

At arraignment this afternoon, Humboldt Superior Court Judge Lawrence Killoran kept the no bail custody status that I previously reported. Public Defender's office appointed. Preliminary hearing on 6/2.

Max Petras who already has a case with 5 charges of violating a court order arrested and booked for stalking

Max Sebastian Petras was arrested by Arcata Police Department yesterday on a Ramey warrant for PC 646.9(a) stalking.

10 searches in Humboldt Superior Court incliding two family cases, one collections case, one 2026 case with two drug charges and five counts of violating a protective order. That 2026 case merges two other 2026 and one 2025 case. There is a Ramey warrant filed in the open 2026 case in February 2026.

Conviction in 2018 and 2007 traffic cases. A 2006 dismissal in a drug case.

Dylan Olivas cuffed in court; only to released to authorized rep for direct transport to treatment program

Dylan Olivas is another repeat offender I covered since 2022. Screenshots are of my posts on his 2025 drug case.

Yesterday, Olivas' case was on for OR bail and trial setting. Trial confirmation is on 7/7; jury trial on 7/13.

Senior Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees requested Olivas be remanded into custody yesterday; that request was granted by Humboldt Superior Court Judge Lawrence Killoran. Deputy Conflict Counsel Zach Curtis is Olivas' attorney. Olivas is authorized to be released to Conflict Counsel social worker Danette Kellerman or representative for direct transport to treatment program. Olivas ordered to stay and complete program.

Exclusives, details and regular coverage on convicted molestor Steve Boudreaux has been provided here since his arrest

I covered convicted molestor Steve Boudreaux's three jury trials, the verdicts and I covered his case since his arrest. Humboldt County Senior Deputy District Attorney Whitney Timm came through for the victims and the People every time. Deputy Public Defender Casey Russo and Steve Boudreaux dragged the inevitable for years. If you want complete and exclusive details, search my blog. After the verdicts, the jurors follow my blog. Ms. Timm is in trial, the defense could have another delay. Sentencing is scheduled tomorrow and if it does proceed, I will add minutes to today's post. Here is Boudreaux's booking photo which I put effort into obtaining years ago.

5/20/26: Steve Boudreaux sentenced to 125 years  to life by Humboldt Superior Court Judge Kaleb Cockrum.

I agree with Senior Deputy District Attorney who said "two little girls showed more courage coming to court" than"  Boudreaux who is not remorseful. Even after being convicted twice, he chose to take this case for trial the third time.

Ms. Timm called Boudreaux a coward in court.

No other media was in court. Court minutes and minute order included.

The DA issued a press release later this afternoon which has been added to the post.

HDSO, Teamsters Local 137 or no organization, who will Humboldt DA Investigators chose in a secret ballot on June 2?

I have more interest in the results of this secret ballot than any race in California on June 2, 2026.

18 year old Landon Zachary arrested by EPD for reckless driving causing injury

Shout out to EPD Police Operations Analyst Rachel Sollom for getting out information to media right away and including the recording. Photos on the scene from EPD.
