"This is unfortunately what Eureka has become", businessowner considers moving back to Marin after being allegedly attacked

Text of craigslist post:

"Tonight I was accosted by a knife-wielding individual at the Chevron on 101 south, who repeatedly hit my car window, first with his knife, then with his fist repeatedly. Thank God my window was closed or he would have hit my neck with his knife and probably killed me. He came from the red car. Do you know him? Then please contact the EPD at 441-4044, case number 17-005048. You or your family could be next.
This is unfortunately what Eureka has become. Let us hope it gets better. I have been here ten years, but considering moving my business back to Marin County now.

Many thanks to the great response from the EPD. They have a difficult mission here.

Addendum: To answer some questions, why did he do this? His kid hit the emergency shutoff switch, shutting down all pumps for about half an hour, inconveniencing many, and I told the kid not to do it again. The father tried to attack me as I left and the manager stopped him. Regarding the comment that I had the right to hit him with my vehicle as he approached me with a knife--in the future if it happened again, I would probably do so and let the cops sort it out. Take care!"

  1. I would of nailed his ass with my truck. You can protect yourself against any deadly threat with deadly force. It's in the penal code.

  2. It is a frightening, this world we live in. It has become an area of being on constant guard to remain safe. I know many people will say, "oh, you're just being paranoid" but this isn't an isolated incident but ratherer an almost expected consequence to living our lives. It's not just isolated to our area but we certainly have more than our fair share.

  3. Come at me with a knife and you might just get shoot. Thank God our Sheriff supports the Second Amendment. Get your CCW and take your safety into your own hands.

    1. Not if you grow weed. It part of the law just voted in. No guns of any sort are allowed on the property. Yet, a jewelry store can have one.

  4. Well, here we go again. The My Child Can't Do Wrong parenting attitude. In this case a person tells another parent's child not to do something and the parent attacks. I guess no one told this parent as a child that he did stuff wrong. A simple 'mind your own business" is a healthy, normal response.

  9. Were you there Dave? If you were, contact EPD. If not, then keep your foul language and hearsay to yourself. Language does not justify pulling out a knife. There is video, hopefully has audio. If the kid was messing with the gas pumps, as claimed, the father needs to raise his kid better and not go after strangers. Five comments on an incident you were not directly involved in shows motive on your part, other than simply stating the whole truth.

    1. Hi there john. I was at the gas station this day. The man who wrote you this letter is off his rocker. He verbally threatened the six year old boy after the boy sincerely apologized for hitting the button. He then threatened to kill the father of the boy for sticking up for his son. I also witnessed this man act like he was going to run over the man, and run into the car with the wife and child in it. He followed them threatening and trying to ram their car into applebees and all the way to the mall. This man is nuts. He tried to run me off the road a few years back for passing him in the slow lane on 101. He was going 60 in the fast lane. No other cars around. He has a serious anger problem. Who the hell threatens to beat a kid up for pushing a button. The gas station attendent was not mad at all. I had a long convo with him after it happened. He was on the father of the boy's side.

  10. Dave - it's TOO bad .. the dude's .. and whole ... and I agree, while an adult should not use derogatory language towards a child (a kid is a small goat, but hey), it does NOT justify an overreaction that gets physically threatening and involves weapons

  11. If u look closely at the picture that's actually not a knife but a silver belt buckle it's probably 1 of those crappie 1Z that keep letting ur pants fall. So just from a legal stand point unprovable can be twisted as falsified statement so if that's the best proof of the incident by careful charging who ever this is I would suggest against it if no better evidence comes to light seeing as how it doesn't sound like there was physical harm or property damage
