22 year old Jarred Vaughan was arrested last night by HCSO on a Ramey warrant. for PC 236.1(c)(1) human trafficking, PC 287(c)(2)(C) oral copulation with a minor, PC 261.5(c) unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor or statutory rape and PC 261(a)(2) forcible rape. Bail is $135,000.
They did not list the middle name in the jail log but a Jarred Wade Vaughan has 4 traffic cases with three convictions and one dismissal.
The HCSO sent out a press release later today in the evening. The additional information in the press release is that Jane Doe is 16. Vaughan and Jane Doe cohabited the same Indianola Reservation Rd property. I don't know if this press release was written by HCSO Lt. Jesse Taylor or Summer who is doing PIO duties and was hired by HCSO via a grant to combat human trafficking or both of them but it is the best press release I have seen covering such cases and local courts for years that national law enforcement should emulate. I sent an email to Lt. Taylor, Sheriff Honsal and DA Eads. Thank you Sheriff Honsal for letting me know it was Lt. Taylor.
I checked on 5/5. The DA had received the report from HCSO but no charges had been filed.
HCSO Press Release:
In late April of 2025, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office - Major Crimes Division was alerted to a report of ongoing sexual assault of a minor having occurred in the area of Indianola Reservation Rd., Loleta.
The Survivor (age 16) identified Jarred VAUGHAN (age 22 of Loleta) as her abuser. VAUGHAN and the Survivor were known to each other and have cohabited the same Indianola Reservation Rd. property with others for the past several months.
Based on the Survivor’s statement, and corroboration through a weeklong investigation, a Ramey Warrant was issued for the arrest of VAUGHAN. VAUGHAN was subsequently arrested on that warrant.
On the morning of May 2, 2025, HCSO Major Crimes Division assisted by HCSO Patrol, HCSO Special Services, HCSO Animal Control, and Humboldt County Child Welfare Services served a Search Warrant at the Indianola Reservation Rd. property. Evidence relating to the alleged assaults was located on scene and collected.
VAUGHAN was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for the following charges:
• Rape by Force or Fear – PC 261(a)(2)
• Unlawful Sex with a Minor more than three years younger – PC 261.5(c)
• Oral Copulation by Force or Fear of a Minor who is 14 or older – PC 287(c)(2)(c)
• Sex Trafficking a Minor – PC 236.1(c)
Special appreciation extended to the Multi-Disciplinary Forensic Interview team at C.A.S.T., Advocates with North Coast Rape Crisis and Victim/Witness, and Social Workers with Child Welfare Services for their professionalism and guidance during this sensitive investigation.
