On December 13, 2024, the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office asked the public's help in locating a third suspect "Michael Cady, 34, of McKinleyville. Cady was involved in a robbery and attempted homicide that took place on April 13 in Fortuna."
Cady was booked into the Humboldt County jail on his arrest warrant on May 6. Cady was supposed to be arraigned yesterday but both Conflict Counsel and Public Defender's office had a conflict so Judge Kelly Neel continued the arraignment to this afternoon so the CAO could see if a private attorney was available. Ms. Rebecca Linkous accepted court appointment today represent Cady. Judge Neel entered not guilty pleas yesterday to preserve Cady's right to a speedy trial. Bail was set by Judge Neel at $750,000. Preliminary hearing is on 5/20.
His co-defendants are Christopher Overholt and Jackson Parrott.
Overholt has an immunity agreement with the DA's office and is represented by Mr. Paul Gallegos. Jackson Parrott's attorney is Ms. Andrea Sullivan. Setting of sentencing for Parrott is on 5/12 after a directed verdict in his trial.
5/20/25: Defense motion to continue in Cady's case granted; preliminary hearing rescheduled to 7/22.
7/22/25: Overholt preliminary continued by stipulation; Overholt joined codefendant Cady's motion to continue. Setting of preliminary hearing on 8/27.
8/27/25: Setting of preliminary hearing for Overholt and Cady continued stipulation to 10/2.
10/2/25: Setting of preliminary hearing continued for Overholt and Cady to 11/4 after discussion at bench.
