Hudson Jack wants to transfer probation but the bigger story is that court minutes incorrectly listed him as pleading to a sex offense and had to be corrected

I covered Hudson Jack's 2022 court case. In August 2024, Jack was sentenced by Judge Kaleb Cockrum to two years probation. Originally charged with with forcible rape. He resolved his case with a plea to PC 236 false imprisonment and PC 289 (e) sexual penetration of an intoxicated victim.

This morning, there was a hearing on a motion to transfer Jack's probation to  Lake County. That motion was granted by Judge Steven Steward. Deputy District Attorney Trent Timm appeared on the case for the People. Deputy Public Defender Wade Orbelian is Jack's attorney.

When I was checking the case today, I just happened to see if there were any other developments and minutes entered since I reported on him being sentence.

I saw a 9/25 order to correct court minutes about one of the counts in Jack's plea. Instead of PC 289 (e) Jack entered a plea to PC 243 (e) (1) domestic battery. Due to the correction in the court minutes, in this post I am no longer referring to Jack as a convicted sex offender.

This is the reason I like to be in court instead of relying on court minutes. It isn't always possible in the last few years for various reasons and that is unfortunate because court minutes are supposed to be official record.

I was in court for Jack's hearings and just checked the last three court minutes In my posts. I also had PC 289 e listed and it cannot be an error three times in a row by court staff. So was the charge incorrectly stated once or confusion in what he was pleading to? This was months ago. This is the reason I get annoyed when certain attorneys and certain people in the audience are loud. Not only is it disrespectful to the court but errors get made. Court staff do make mistakes sometimes but given the chaotic environment and noise in the courtrooms, try doing their job for a month and see how you fare. The same applies to trying to report and cover multiple courtrooms simultaneously which I do regularly.

Deputy DA Carolyn Schaffer is the prosecutor for this case. Jack's attorney is Deputy Public Defender David Celli.

9/25/24 order:

11/12 court minutes:

will only add if there is a need, if the motion is granted, there is no need for court minutes
