Chip Brocious arrested again this year, will the DA dismiss charges again?

Chip William Brocious was arrested yesterday morning by Arcata Police Department and booked for eight violations; PC 245 (a) 4 assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury; VC 22450(a) running a stop sign, VC 22107 unsafe lane changes, VC 21657 driving on the wrong side of the road, VC 22348(b) driving over 100 miles on a highway, VC 20001(a) felony hit and run, VC 2800.4 evading by driving opposite of traffic and VC 2800.2 felony reckless evading of a police officer. As of 10 a.m. this morning, he is still in custody. Bail at booking is $35,000.

I originally met Chip through a court case I was covering about his son. I reported on his 2023 arrest and a week before his jury trial on two alleged misdemeanor counts, the DA dismissed charges. Posts on Chip and his son's case can be accessed via the search feature on this blog.

The DA filed a complaint on 11/13/24 and Brocious was arraigned on 11/13. Public Defender's office was appointed and bail increased to $50,000. Defense oral motion for release was denied by Retired Judge John Feeney. OR bail hearing on 11/15; preliminary hearing on 11/22.

11/15: Retired Judge John Feeney denied supervised release. Deputy DA Brandon Boozari appeared on the case for the People. Deputy Public Defender Adrian Kamada for Brocious.

11/22: Preliminary hearing continued by defense to 1/7/25.
