Just yesterday, I did a detailed post on Maria Cuevas, the suspect arraigned for the seven car collision on 7th and I.
Her case is on for confirmation of counsel tomorrow. Humboldt Superior Court has a list of private attorneys who are part of a conflict panel. As expected, the Public Defender's office will declare a conflict tomorrow. You will never guess who might end up being Cuevas' attorney and has volunteered his name.
Word around the courthouse and from a few different sources is ousted former Humboldt Superior Court judge Gregory Kreis who is now a lawyer wants to be appointed.
Kreis has the same conflict as everyone else at the PD and Conflict Counsel's office . Judge Kaleb Cockrum recused himself. Kreis has no business being considered in this case so let's see what happens tomorrow.
7/10: Kreis was appointed. 7/18 date vacated after defense request for continuance granted. Setting of preliminary hearing on 8/14.
