Despite burn marks, despite People's opposition, Judge's reluctance, Aaron Hungerford's victim asks for modification of protective order

A hearing to review an adult protective order in Aaron Hungerford's corporal injury case was scheduled for February 27. This case is in criminal court. He was arraigned on 2/22 on this case.

Hungerford had been previously served with a full stay away order. That was modified to a peaceful contact order.

The victim had not mentioned her change of heart to the DA prior to the court appearance. This morning, Deputy Public Defender Luke Brownfield told Judge Kaleb Cockrum that the "protected party was in court" requesting the order "be lifted."

District Attorney Maggie Fleming told Judge Cockrum the People oppose the motion "given the level of his involvement",; Hungerford was smoking a ciggarette, there were burn marks on the victim. Ms. Fleming said "it is not appropriate to have contact."

Judge Cockrum asked if the victim had spoken to the DA. Ms. Fleming said no. Ms. Fleming spoke with the victim in court. She told Judge Cockrum the victim wished to address the court.

Judge Cockrum asked Jane Doe if she was worried about her safety, she said no. Jane Doe said no and this was not been a problem in the past. Hungerford does not have a prior record for domestic violence.

Jane Doe is living with Hungerford and been in a relationship with him for a year.

Given the victim's wishes, Judge Cockrum reluctantly modified the order with the  warning to Hungerford about conduct and that the victim could record certain behavior.

The next court date for his DUI case in early resolution court was March 15. That case had pretrial conference scheduled.

No other media was in court.
