Despite People's objection, Judge Killoran released David Anderson charged with criminal threats and child abuse of 4 children 10 years and younger

 

When I first saw David Anderson on the court calendar, I thought of the convicted human trafficker who I covered for years. Turns out the David Anderson with a 2025 case has a different middle name; Eric. This 62 year old has been charged with criminal threats and 4 counts of child abuse. Four victims, Jane Doe, John Doe 1, John Doe 2 and John Doe 3. The ages are 9, 6, 10 and 8 years old.

Anderson was arraigned on 4/17;  Public Defender's office appointed; Judge Lawrence Killoran denied defense request for release on OR. On 4/21, supervised release was granted by Judge Killoran despite Deputy Trent Timm's objection. The 4/29 preliminary hearing was continued by defense to 6/6.

Judge Killoran has been setting no bail, denying supervised release so I am surprised he allowed Anderson back on the streets. According to jail records, Anderson is on unsupervised work release. I am not sure how a 20 yard stay away protects the minor children.

6/6/25: Preliminary hearing continued by defense to 8/22/25.

8/22/25: Preliminary hearing continued by defense to 9/5.

9/5/25: Anderson not held to answer to Count 1; held to answer Ct 2, 3, 4 & 5. Trial confirmation on 9/23; jury trial on 9/29.

Court minutes list Courtroom 3 and Judge Steven Steward and then Courtroom 5 and Judge Killoran with the same Courtroom clerk and court reporter. I was not there and after 12 years of dealing with Humboldt Superior Court issues, I am too busy with other news, national news to chase down one of 20 plus daily Humboldt Superior Court cases to find out whether the judge and courtroom with the preliminary hearing is an error or the case got sent over to another courtroom for the preliminary hearing.

9/23/25: At trial confirmation, entered plea. 9/29 date vacated. PPPR report on 10/23/25. Court records say he was sentenced but all that was in the computer is two pages that he pleaded guilty to additional Count 6 as a misdemeanor, PC 417 (a) (1) brandishing a deadly weapon. Counts 2, 3, 4 and 5 dismissed. Protective order served in court.
