On April 2, at 1:30 Foot logic owner Jianzhao Dong's preliminary hearing started with Judge Kelly Neel asking Deputy District Attorney Carolyn Schaffer to call her first witness.
During direct examination, EPD Officer Jayme Clark said that during a massage, Jane Doe told her that Dong "pushed his elbow into her anus & across her vaginal area so hard it hurt." Jane Doe said Dong "touched her labia" during the same massage.
Dong is being represented by former Humboldt County DA Mr. Paul Gallegos. During cross examination, Mr. Gallegos asked if Jane Doe had been massaged before by Dong. Officer Clark responded, "yes" and said there was only one other incident when Dong's "hand grazed her leg." Mr.Gallegos asked about surveillance footage. He also repeatedly questioned Officer Clark that "other than that act," there was no force and fear.
During redirect, Ms. Schafer asked Officer Clark if Jane Doe was afraid of Dong. Officer Clark responded yes and reiterated her testimony earlier about Jane Doe being "frozen."
The second People's witness was EPD Officer Ben Altic. Third People's witness was EPD Detective Raymond Nunez.
Dong is charged with four felonies. Count 1 & Count 2 PC 289 (a) 1 (a) forcible sexual penetration with a foreign object. Count 3 & Count 4 PC 243.4 (c) sexual battery by fraudulent representation.
Besides two Mandarin interpreters Richard Shek and Bonny Llyn, there was only one other man in the courtroom.
Dong was held to answer to all charges. Arraignment on information is on 4/16.
