The life of two police officers shot at by a convicted felon is not as important to the Arcata Mayor or Vice Mayor

Susan Ornelas, Sofia Pereira, your absence at today's press conference at Arcata City Hall sends this message.

The life of two police officers shot at by a convicted felon is not as important to the Arcata mayor or Vice Mayor

You sent Arcata City  manager Karen Diemer to the press conference today. Why weren't you there? At least one of you should show up to support your police department.

Notice I did not mention race at all. Race is not the issue; a crime is a crime.

I also notice the silence from the usual race baiters.

There has been nothing but an outpouring of  support for the officers; especially Officer Louis Altic, who is well known to people and someone who many care for in Eureka, Arcata and Humboldt County. That is one of the reasons I put his name out there before today.

Being convicted in Humboldt did not deter this thug, being wanted in Santa Barbara did not deter this criminal. He put many citizens at risk and nearly killed a police officer on Saturday.

  1. BIG message! Was there a mention and support from Humboldt State University. Certainly interesting that the cone of silence came down on this. Let's just ignore this one people, might look bad if this incident got out. If officer hadn't have been shot, oh hell yeah, up pops the devil. Protests, rants, riots. Just pointing a gun at a cop doesn't matter, the perp has to actually shoot them first. But this didn't play out the way it "always" does. Sweep, Sweep. Tina... no screaming racism? Interesting. I'm just gonna say it, call me a racist, ALL LIVES MATTER ESPECIALLY COPS! Well, not all. If you are stupid enough to try and in too many circumstances, succeed to shoot a Cop, well fuck you. Deal with it. As for the Mayor and Mayor Jr... I hope this dismissive behavior is remembered at election time!

    1. Now, after some reflection and time. What I really want to say is that WE ALL MATTER. You matter, I matter, we all fucking matter. It angers me that there has to be a "check the box" for everything. My race, my gender, my feelings, my rights, my hopes and dreams. Mine are as equal to everyone else's. We are all human and we all matter. I welcome all who come to me in peace. I felt I would be judged and got prematurely defensive because I have personally witnessed the rhetoric of the solely inclusive Black Lives Matter, and no one else's. If you say differently, you are called a racist.

Ultimately the blog was about two humans who chose not to show respect to an officer, who came in to their main town square to protect and serve their community. I still find that revolting.

    2. Both your responses are just fine. You are not the only one who feels that way.

  2. geez Louise.....maybe both women had scheduling issues?
And black folks who I know, recognize that if you want to die you likely will if you decide to shoot at a police person. It was clear from sources I know, who are in fact, people of color, could see, because they were there, that the now deceased man wanted to die.

    1. I didn't bring up race in my post but you did in your response, guilty conscience perhaps?

Spare me the scheduling issues crap. They didn't
have any scheduling conflicts for every Lawson photo op? Since you brought race up, let's use that example.

Black people you know and who were there aren't the ultimate word on this situation. Nor are any other witnesses of any race. There is some video, there is evidence and procedure used in investigation. All that is done and is not based on subjective feelings. This man had a record, he didn't care. He nearly killed a police officer and he endangered lives.

Arcata City Council and Mayor were not elected to represent some lives but all lives.

  3. Anyone know what the warrant in SB is for? I've looked on various SB LEO websites, but can't find the charge.

  5. I wonder if the upcoming special session at the City of Aracta council chamber for 'student safety concerns' on this coming Wednesday September 13th will be as rowdy as last weeks scheduled Arcata City Council meeting was? Will the Wednesday evening special session meeting be televised/ put on the internet?

I watched the 3 hours long Arcata City Council meeting of September 6th online, and was shaking my head at the way the City Council was not able to conduct City business due to the rants and protests.

It is time for the Arcata Mayor and City Council to represent all of the citizens, and not just some special interest groups, and HSU.
