The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Explosive Ordinance Team responded to assist with the investigation. Once the search warrant was obtained, Investigators conducted a search of the vehicle.  During the search, Investigators seized and secured the container of Tannerite.

Also, during the search, Investigators located an seized an un-serialized pistol, a loaded pistol magazine, several hundred rounds of ammunition, as well as detachable rifle magazines for .223 rifle. The student/suspect is 18 years old and was secured by school staff and officers.  At the conclusion of the search and on scene investigation, the suspect was arrested for the following offenses;  Possession of Explosives without a Permit; Possession or Transporting Explosives;  Possession of a Concealed Firearm in a Vehicle;  Possession of a Non-Serialized Firearm; and  Possession of a Firearm in a School Zone.

The suspect, Ivan Gunner Hatch Logan, 18 years old from Eureka, was arrested and booked at the Humboldt County Correctional Facility. This investigation has revealed that there was no threat or intent that the seized items were to be used towards any students/staff of EHS or against the campus.

EPD was able to secure the vehicle and the situation without placing the school on lockdown or disrupt the school day.  EPD appreciates the diligence of EHS Staff and their quick response to this situation.  EPD, as well as EHS Staff, are committed to the safety of our students and staff members.
