"We will not be charging any cases where person is out of custody and normally gets a letter."

This afternoon, the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors held a special meeting in response to Governor Newsom's guidelines regarding the coronavirus.

District Attorney Maggie  Fleming said "courts are putting together a plan."

Ms. Fleming spoke with attorneys, Conflict Counsel and the Public Defender's office. Only cases with defendants in custody and those defendants who have not waived time will proceed. "We will not be charging any cases where person is out of custody and normally gets a letter"unless the person is a danger to public safety.

Except for preliminary hearings, jury trials and sentencings, Deputy District Attorneys will appear by phone.

The District Attorney's office is "happy to continue trials," said DA Fleming.  "Many of our jurors are elderly."

Jail is reducing visitors and programs. Video conferencing  will be taking place so inmates don't have to be in court.

Sheriff Honsal, District Attorne  Fleming, Humboldt Superior Court CEO Kim Bartleson, DHHS Director Connie Beck were some of the department heads at the meeting.

Four members of public attending.

CAO spoke about employee leave and telecommuting. If employees diagnosed with COVID-19 exhaust leave, they will be put on administrative leave.

Most department heads thanked the Board of Supervisors for the resolution listed  below as many employees have to take care of children or elderly parents. The meeting was livestreamed. The resolution passed unanimously.
