Arraignment on information for Jeff Tsarnas continued twice by defense
Jeff Tsarnas' arraignment was continued to March 5 due to the amount of discovery Deputy Conflict Counsel April Van Dyke had to review. Today, after waiting for over an hour for Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees to finish a sentencing and appear on another case in different courtrooms, Tsarnas' arraignment was put over to March 9.
The request was made by Conflict Counsel Supervising Attorney Meagan O'Connell because Ms.Van Dyke is sick and out of the office. "She is doing some work on the case regarding the demurrer," said Ms. O'Connell.
For the jury trial, the District Attorney has added a special allegation to the hit and run charge. At the last hearing, Deputy Conflict Counsel April Van Dyke entered a demurrer to the special allegation.
Mr. Patrik Griego represents the victim, Marie Kelly and was in court today. Judge Lawrence Killoran granted the defense request over Mr. Rees' objection.
3/9 update:
Arraignment was completed. Trial confirmation is on May 18. Jury trial on June 1.
