  1. I check in on your blog, John, for the information you gather from the courts that no one else seems to cover. Your (earlier) post on this horrible Fortuna event had information. With this addition, you have fallen into the land of tawdry, tabloid trash.

Though you did say "believed" what the headline readers will take away is "affair". It's gossip. It's supposition. It's tawdry. It's unnecessary (even IF true) to rub salt in the wounds of the surviving family members on both sides of this. Stick to facts and you have a valuable blog. Otherwise, you're just another gossip rag.

    1. Beachcomber, you are entitled to your opinion. It isn't just courts, I on a regular basis, often have breaking news that no one has and it isn't scannner traffic reports or information that I just put out there. Yes my earlier posts on this shooting which led to Tim Smith's death had information before it was released by the FPD, who rightfully are busy and have their reasons. I was right about the family members being at home when this occurred; and hence released the victim's name 24 hours before FPD because his family was aware; I had the right name of the suspect before he was arrested and the information on shooting at point blank range.

It is not gossip when that information will be revealed later and is from a solid source, Just because FPD has not released the warrant and details does not mean I am engaging in speculation. Law enforcement said that the motive was not drug related. If you are looking for gossip, go to LOCO's Thunderdome. Motive is a relevant part of news in a murder investigation.

In the Marci Kitchen case, I released information and had information before anyone else and it was healing to the family. In some cases, one cannot wait for law enforcement to release vital information.

This is a valuable blog. Your opinion does not make it a gossip rag because you have no idea where my information came from or what the family thinks. As for the surviving family members, do you have this issue with LOCO where they regularly speculate on people in tragedy and allow hurtful comments that don't even have basis in truth. Don't go insulting me because you have an opinion on what you think should be released.

There is not a single media outlet in this town that has the guts to provide real information at great personal and financial risk.

I have received some abusive comments about what a respectable man Smith was and an attempt to intimidate me; if this case goes to preliminary, the truth will come out. Motive is essential information and like any case, there are two sides to a story.

  2. I'm impressed you allowed my comment (I was told you don't usually accept uncomplimentary comments). I don't go into "the Thunderdome" for the exact reason you mention and generally stay away from the Country Club because it's only slightly milder; I read the news and move on. I also read more than just the headlines which can't be said about many who post comments. You may very well be "correct" in your information but not necessarily "right" in posting it. I don't know the people involved. I was not "insulting" you but making constructive criticism. I have an opinion that, just because you CAN (post the information) doesn't mean you SHOULD. It doesn't make you a better journalist/blogger when you feed into the schadenfreude that fuels the fire of public comment. Your choice. Your blog.

    1. Beachcomber, why shouldn't I allow your comment? The only ones I moderate are usually libelious, personal attacks and the same troll who spread rumors about me.

Youn took a chance not to believe them, good for you. Yes, it is my blog and in this case, I stand by my post and why I printed the information.

    1. You don't get to dictate what I write or not, I did not publish rhe last three threatening/abusive comments but they are saved. If you or anyone else tries to intimidate me in any way, don't think your anonimity is safe. Have no guts to use your real name?

    2. "Don't write about fortuna any more." Hahahahah....so much wrong with this I cannot even begin. If you don't like the news, don't read it. Simple as that.
