Lost Coast Rotaract combats child hunger in Humboldt
Lost Coast Rotaract, a club for young professionals aged 18 to 30 based in Eureka, California, is combating childhood hunger with a softball tournament to raise money for Backpacks for Kids, a program sponsored by Food for People.
Food for People is Humboldt County’s food bank, which coordinates efforts to address the root cause of hunger and disperse emergency and supplemental food to households at risk for hunger and food insecurity. Half of the children in Humboldt County are eligible to receive free or reduced-cost meals at school. Food for People’s Backpacks for Kids is a program aimed at alleviating the stress of food insecurity for many of Humboldt’s struggling families. On Fridays during the school year, eligible children receive a bag of kid-friendly food to help them get through the weekend.
Lost Coast Rotaract is a leader in community and global development, dedicated to tackling issues of poverty, drug abuse, homelessness, and much more. In partnership with Food for People, Lost Coast Rotaract’s fundraising team has dedicated its efforts into producing the annual Smash Out Hunger Softball Tournament, of which all the net proceeds will be donated to Backpacks for Kids.
The tournament will take place on Sunday, September 13th at Redwood Fields in Eureka. It will feature, in addition to the tournament, contests, a raffle, food, and fun for all ages! Registration starts at 9:00am and the first pitch will kick off at 10:00am. Businesses, organizations, and individuals are encouraged to form teams of 10-14 players. Registration is $300 per team, $21.50-$30.00 per individual.

Good for them. Maybe they can do something about about the homeless behind the mall.
