Each year the California Attorney General’s Office awards a Citizens Certification of Appreciation for deserving citizens across the state. This award honors people who have made a difference in their community.
In 2015, Chief Andrew Mills nominated Neighborhood Watch Block Captains Jeannie Breslin, Robert (Bob) Bartley, Jean Scheffler, and Leo Sears for this important award.
On September 3, 2015, the Eureka Police Department was notified by the Attorney General’s office that these four nominees will be honored with the Citizens Appreciation award at a ceremony in Napa on September 24th.
The criteria for the Attorney General’s award is based on an outstanding contribution to their community, a major accomplishment which directly makes a substantial contribution to more effective law enforcement or crime prevention, and a sustained or continued personal support of law enforcement evidenced by acts or deeds.
“These four community minded and dedicated Neighborhood Watch Block Captains have gone above and beyond the call of duty as neighborhood designates,” states Chief Mills. “This dynamic team of crime fighters is the essence of community policing and problem solving. They have forever changed the landscape of policing in Eureka and are even spreading their efforts into other jurisdictions. I could not be more proud and pleased with the dedication and efforts of this wonderful and dedicated group of individuals.”
The Eureka Police Department congratulates our four Neighborhood Block Captains for their community minded spirit and hard work.
