In 2018, Ewa Misztal pleaded guilty to two added counts; voluntary manslaughter as well as child endangerment and abuse.
I covered Ewa Misztal's 2016 case extensively and for 7 years from 2016 to 2023. I stopped following the case in 2023 after she was approved for outpatient treatment.
On 2/13/25, I noticed her name on the court calendar. The Readiness Conference scheduled for that day was continued by Judge Kaleb Cockrum because he is disqualified and was rescheduled for 2/14 in front of Judge Steven Steward.
On 2/14, there was an agreement by to continue the jury trial to mid April. It is scheduled for 4/7, but will not start until 4/8. Judge Steward said "the matter was pending while he was Deputy DA" and he will file a recusal.
The 2/18 jury trial date was vacated. Readiness Conference scheduled on 3/27/25; jury trial on 4/7/25.
3/27:Readiness Conference continued by stipulation to 4/1.
4/1: Readiness Conference continued to 4/4 by for a motion to continue.
4/4: Motion to continue by DA granted. Readiness Conference on 5/1; jury trial on 5/5.
5/1: Judge Cockrum is disqualified so case sent to Retired Judge Christopher Wilson. 5/5 date vacated; continued by stipulation to 5/23 for trial setting and hearing on petition for unconditional release.
