Traffic stop by EPD results in arrest of felon for meth and firearms; David Silva had multiple outstanding warrants

On January 31, 2025 at approximately 7:40 PM a Eureka Police Department Officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding and making unsafe lane changes while traveling eastbound on 4th street. The driver was identified as 53-year-old David Silva from Trinidad.  A records check of Silva revealed he had multiple warrants for his arrest. Silva was taken into custody on his outstanding warrants without incident. 

While securing the vehicle the Officer observed suspected methamphetamine on the floorboard. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, the Officer located a stolen Desert Eagle .44 Magnum handgun, a loaded Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun, two additional loaded .44 Magnum magazines, approximately 20 grams of suspected methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia. 

Silva was transported and booked at the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for multiple charges including: felon in possession of a firearm (PC 29800(a)(1)), possession of a controlled substance while armed (HS 11370.1(a)), possession of methamphetamine (HS 11377(a)), possession of stolen property (PC 496(a)), and probation violation (PC 1203.2(a)).
