I had heard about new ownership and management of Eureka Central Residence on 333 E street & Hillsdale apartments on 1140 E street and contacted the manager who put me in touch with new owner. I met with Mr. Anil Dwivedi. He is a successful business owner well known in the Los Angeles area and he is frequently in Eureka and expanding his business here.
While I was outside both places, I chatted with happy tenants. I have been in Eureka Central Residence years ago to help out an acquaintance's son. It is cleaner now and smells better. I have also heard positive feedback on both places from vendors and contractors.
There was a social media post with unsubstantiated rumors. I saw what the building looks now myself on more than one occasion. Besides my own observations, I did research on my own which includes court records.
I don't give credence to anon social media posts with an agenda. For now, I am not going to dignify any unverified smear tactics or unsubtantiated claims. I am still investigating and may do a follow up post.
I spoke with Mr. Dwivedi twice. He told me that, "I am expanding my business and helping the local community by providing 36 extremely low income families by providing housing."
"Since I took over, I have completely able to eradicate drugs from this building and renovated over 70% of the units. Eureka Central Residence was smelly, there were roaches, mice running around and it was a safe haven for drug users. I was able to turn it around and make it a pleasant place for the tenants who live here. It maybe low income housing but it is also a home for the people who live here and they deserve a safe and clean environment."
Mr. Dwivedi told me he is facing "a lot of racism since he is a brown person."
"Doesn't this community needs investors like me who can create jobs and bring more investors to the area? I would think the local community would welcome the change that a young mind can bring and the potential that someone sees in this area."
News is not creating drama from anon social media posts and unverified claims. The people bad mouthing Mr. Dwivedi don't use their names for a reason. I have experience in doing news for 36 years in Philadelphia, Atlanta and doing this blog for 14 years in Humboldt. I have now lived in Humboldt for 21 years and know how "news" works here and how people react to change and outsiders. I have experienced backlash and retaliation in Humboldt and so have other who work but have to live with tenants who don't. If you speak up against drug users or other tenants with criminal records, many local property owners and property management companies will target and get rid of you.
My hunch is that these anon social media posts about Mr.Dwivedi and unverified "talk" probably includes a few disgruntled tenants.
"I have 68 happy tenants since I took over," Mr. Dwivedi told me. "I chose to focus on them."
