I have covered "hot shot" Deputy DA Trent Timm for 10 years, so glad to see him appear on KINS but more importantly looking forward to him returning to prosecution of cases that earned him that nickname

The Humboldt County District Attorney is one of the elected officials who regularly appears on KINS. This morning in addition to Humboldt County DA Stacey Eads, Deputy District Attorney Trent Timm appeared live on radio talking about retail theft cases, Prop 36, changes in the law and recidivism.

If you have followed my blog from the beginning or even the last few years, you have read the many court cases and know my opinion of Mr. Timm. Mr. Timm joined the DA's office in 2015, which is a year after I regularly started covering Humboldt Superior Court. My coverage of him and his successful prosecutions earned him the nickname "hot shot deputy DA" coined by Ryan Hurley.

The Humboldt County District Attorney's office received a grant of $2 million from the state to specifically target and prosecute retail theft cases. This led to the creation of a dedicated retail theft prosecution team within the Humboldt DA's office. In addition to Mr. Timm, former EPD Officer and currently DA Investigator Tim Marsolan is on the DA retail theft team.

Just a few minutes ago, I briefly saw Mr. Timm and asked him whether he would get back to prosecuting other type of cases . Besides myself, others in the legal community familiar with him including past jurors also want to know.

Mr. Timm told me that when the team was first created, "an experienced prosecutor was needed and I was honored that DA Eads gave me the opportunity to be a part of this important effort." He told me the plan is to pass on these cases to other deputy DAs and he will go back to trying other cases.
