Cyle Abbot Jr is the suspect arrested in the Comfort Inn incident

Eureka Police Department confirmed the suspect arrest yesterday in the Comfort Inn incident is Cyle Warren Abbott Jr.

33 year old Abbot was booked for VC 10851(a) unlawful taking or driving of a vehicle, PC 1170(h)(5)(b) mandatory supervision,  PC 647 (f) public intoxication, three counts of PC 1203.2(a) probation violation , PC 69 resisting an executive officer, PC 417.4 brandishing an imitation firearm, PC 422(a) criminal threats and PC 594(b)(1) vandalism.

In 2015, I did a post about an arrest by Eureka Police Department at a local motel in the 800 block of Broadway for probation violation, stolen property and drugs. Based on the age, that was Abbott Sr. A search for Cyle Abott in Humboldt Superior Court comes up with 42 cases for Sr and Jr.

EPD updated press release (4:55 p.m. 6/3):

On Sunday, June 2, 2024, at approximately 7:06 am, Eureka Police Department (EPD) Patrol Officers were dispatched to the 4200 block of Broadway for a male who appeared agitated, had lit a small vegetation fire, and was breaking into a vehicle in the parking lot. The male was identified as 33-year-old Cyle Abbott Jr.

Upon arrival, officers found Abbott inside the vehicle, yelling nonsensically, highly agitated, and non-compliant; he was breaking the windows with a large knife and threatened to harm himself.  With Abbott contained inside the vehicle, EPD Patrol Officers established/maintained a perimeter and deployed various less lethal equipment. During this time, Abbott continued breaking out vehicle windows, brandished a firearm, and threw a large number of various items onto the ground. One of these items was a firearm which was later determined to be a BB gun.

Members of the Humboldt County Crisis Negotiations Team (CNT), including the Crisis Alternative Response of Eureka (CARE) Managing Mental Health Clinician and EPD Community Safety Engagement Team (CSET) MIST/Mental Health Officer, responded. Deputies with the Humboldt County Sheriff Office responded to assist with a drone. An EPD K9 also responded. Despite negotiations and de-escalation efforts, Abbott refused to voluntarily comply with officers. However, after approximately one-hour-and-forty-five minutes, it appeared Abbott was no longer conscious as he was not moving. Officers made entry into the vehicle and placed Abbott under arrest without incident.

Cyle Abbott Jr. was medically cleared and booked at the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on a vandalism, brandishing, criminal threats, resisting arrest, public intoxication, probation violation, and a warrant.
