Convicted molestor Chad Smith back in custody, fails to register as sex offender

I was at the courthouse looking at his case when a reader also saw his name and contacted me. 49 year old convicted molestor Chad Allan Smith was arrested yesterday by HCSO and booked on a bench warrant in his 2017 case for PC 290M failure to register as a sex offender, PC288 (a) lewd or lascivious acts with a minor, three counts of PC 667.61(b) California's one strike sex crime enhancement and three counts of PC 1203.066 (a) (7) and  one count of PC 1203.066 (a) (8).

There are no documents or details in e court except for a pending charge of PC 290 M. The Public Defender's office was appointed to represent Smith after Ms. Andrea Sullivan was relieved. In the last minutes from 1/17/23 where the criminal protective order was extended by 10 years, the PD's office had not spoken with Smith. PD was relieved on 12/13/23. The warrant was issued on 12/22/2023.

On 6/6/24, I checked e court and the 6/5 arraignment on warrant date was vacated with no additional information.

On 7/3/24, I asked DA Investigator Ryan Hill about the lack of information about Smith being in custody and no document filed why. E court shows as of 7/3/24, he has been in custody for 30 days. Jail records indicate scheduled release is 12/2/24. DA Investigator Hill said simplest way to explain is Smith owed County some time in custody.

I covered the 2017 case and trial extensively and I am not linking all those previous posts.
