"The City of Eureka is continuing to explore all options and locations for the possible relocation of the PW Corp Yard."

The reader confirmed he was talking about the flea market located at the foot of Del Norte.

Eureka City Clerk Pam Powell responded:

"I’m assuming that you are talking about the old flea market site at the foot of Del Norte Street along the bay?  If so, there are several factors in not considering the site.  First, we don’t own that site or have control over it.  The site is also in the Tsunami Hazard Zone and it is important for our emergency response resources to be located outside that hazard zone. "

"The City is applying for grant funding for a new Emergency Operations Center that could be co-located with the Public Works Corp Yard, but we are not currently applying for grant funding for a new Corp yard."

"The City of Eureka is continuing to explore all options and locations for the possible relocation of the PW Corp Yard.  Everything that has been done to date is exploratory and preliminary.  Any final decisions will be vetted through a public process."

  1. One would think we get hit by tsunamis every week with her reply. Newsflash: a local tsunami that could wreck a Del Norte yard would also have leveled much of Eureka with it. ~TMOB

    1. Nope. Just the areas near the bay.

  2. To place the public works "dump" in the Zoo/Kennedy Fields area is ludicrous. The current location is just fine and where in hell did this super great idea of relocation come from? A druggie "high on stupid" babbling to an official? Whoever started this garbage of relocation needs NAPA counciling or just plan being fire! Start attending the council meetings if you live in the Zoo area and complain vehemently.

    1. Critical infrastructure needs to be out of the tsunami zone. Remember Sendai?
