Channel 3's Sierra Jenkins and KIEM broke this story.
"Officer involved shooting at the Shell Gas Station on 14th and G Streets in Arcata. One man was taken to the hospital, is in critical condition and is undergoing surgery according to Arcata Police Chief Tom Chapman. After speaking with a Shell employee who called the police for a man allegedly acting strange and drinking on gas station property, he says, once Arcata police arrived the man cussed and charged at an officer. That's when when the employee says officers told the man to put down a metal pipe and wood stick he was carrying. The man did not comply. According Chapman, one officer used a taser, and another officer fired at least two rounds. The man was hit at least once in the abdomen. APD says they know his identity but are withholding it at this time. The Shell employee says he was white, 20-30 years old, wearing jeans, back combat boots and a big hoodie."
