Assemblyman Wood honors Fortuna's Dennis Scott as May 2016 Community Champion

In a small effort to highlight the good deeds and hard work of our neighbors, my monthly newsletters feature a different “Community Champion” every month.  The champion can be an individual, a group, or a business that makes us proud to be a part of the community we live in.
This month's Community Champion is Dennis Scott.

Dennis ScottMr. Scott was one of the original board members of the Mel and Grace McLean Foundation in Fortuna. He grew up in the Bay Area and came to Humboldt County in 1977, to work for Eel River Sawmills, the company founded by Mel and Grace McLean.
After starting as the company controller, Mr. Scott became vice-president and then president; he eventually was charged with winding up the company's affairs when it was sold.
Currently, Mr. Scott is president of the McLean Foundation, and works tirelessly to apply the foundation's generous philosophy. His focus on healthcare, economic development and education in the Eel River Valley is unparalleled.
Recently, Mr. Scott has been working on the forthcoming Fortuna Open Door Community Health Center where the McLean Foundation has partnered with Open Door Health Centers to develop solutions for our healthcare crisis in Humboldt County.  The two organizations have paired up with a vision of developing a state-of-the-art community healthcare center that will recruit providers and bring cutting-edge healthcare to the Eel River Valley.
Mr. Scott is the loving father of two daughters and is an avid golfer and softball player.  He is on the advisory council for the Fortuna Seniors Group and a member of the Fortuna Sunrise Rotary Club.
His dedication to his community is only second to his humility. Thank you Dennis Scott for everything you do for our community, I am so proud to represent such a fine and distinguished individual.
