I said right away that Higgins Street was a targeted shooting and involved a repeat offender

I have been adding my own follow up and HCSO updates and press releases to the October 31 post about the Higgins street shooting.

I get that HCSO wants to investigate and build a case but in a second press release about the Harwill Court shooting, they were fine about stating initial information indicated a targeted shooting. The least they could have done is let the public know if they believe it is a repeat offender in the Higgins street shooting. That does not jeopardize the Higgins street investigation.

I did contact HCSO Lt. Taylor over the weekend who gave me the standard response.

Both people who sent me tips did so with a disclaimer  and did not state these are the suspects but both tips indicate it is a repeat offender and targeted shooting.

It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out this is the behavior of an experienced criminal or gang type behavior. If a Hoopa "gang" or Tyler Colegrove orChris Mellon are involved; it is relevant because this is yet another time everything is hush hush with HCSO when Colegrove or Hoopa maybe involved. The last time I broke the news and reported a search for a gun at Dawn Colegrove's house. Colegrove is out on the streets thanks to the useless Humboldt injustice court system despite multiple arrests. There have been a lot of crimes involving Hoopa repeat offenders and that takes a lot of resources from HCSO who are short staffed. Eureka Police Department and HCSO are not funded by the Hoopa Tribe and there is enough local crime from residents who live in Eureka and Humboldt County who are not members of any tribe.

I received a tip about possible involvement from Juan Diego Garcia-Zepeda's crew and someone named Miguel who does own the residence involved in the Higgins Street shooting. This is not some random person from the community and I cannot say more or it will identify my source.

I just received this other tip at 11 a.m. today. It refers to both the Higgins Street and Harwill Court shooting incidents.

"Hi there John, my name is Carmen Hernandez. My son lives in Eureka, and has made me aware of the recent shootings there and was able to give me some context as well as names. I've also reported these details to the sheriffs office detectives, specifically Brian Buinher. My son is a known gang member there in Eureka is on probation and doing well to keep off the streets and out of the drama that comes with it. I am choosing to keep his name off of this for his own safety and peace of mind. My son is good friends with the boys that live at both houses that were targeted. The targeted boys themselves are not gang members but are actual  friends with a few boys associated with the HOGN gang. My son's friend Ricky, is a close friend and the target of the second shooting that occurred on the morning of 11/2. He lives with his grandma and little brother. He's a good kid and a college student. The kind of friend I would any my son to have. Anyway, Ricky was dating a girl named Alyssa Hansen of Arcata earlier this year/last year. They broke up a few months ago, and Alyssa is now dating Tyler Colgrove. Tyler and his friend Chris Mellon are known to be affiliated with the Hoopa gang called the Pine Creek Crips. Both Tyler and Chris were implicated as shooters. From what I've heard both boys have been staying a lot in Arcata at Alyssa's house. My son's friend told me that they have not had any direct beef with these boys- which is why he is so freaked out. Aside from Tyler now dating Ricky's ex, and my son and his friends's loose association with the HOGN boys, they don't understand why they're being targeted. Like I said my son is gang affiliated but is not active, but my assumption is that because his affiliation is with the Norteno gang, that he could possibly be considered a rival to this newly dubbed Pine Creek Crip gang. To be clear my son is not okay with community violence and random attacks against normal everyday people despite his gang ties. He feels it lacks ethics and respect altogether and I feel similarly. Anyway thanks for listening , I hope they can get a solid case built but so far it’s all double hearsay. I’ve attached two pictures from Chris Mellon and Tyler Colgrove’s IG accounts. "

By putting this out, there is documentation. Probation, HCSO should provide Carmen and her family protection. With the specific details from both tips; it is likely that  even if some hearsay is involved, there is reason to investigate any involvement. I have given up expecting protection for me from HCSO. EPD does watch out for me but they cannot do anything with the useless Democrats and California laws and after last night; don't expect any changes to law and order.

If HCSO wants the public's help, they need to be forthcoming about basics and stop jeopardizing the community because it is not my job or Carmen's to investigate crimes or protect the community. They have an idea who is involved and simply saying details will be released with a vague timeline is not good enough.
