County of Humboldt issued a press release ijust now.

The California State Controller’s Office has honored the Humboldt County Auditor-Controller’s Office with the County Financial Transactions Reporting Award.

This award recognizes the Humboldt County Auditor-Controller’s team for providing complete, accurate and timely financial reporting for the state’s Financial Transaction Report for fiscal year 2024-25.

Falling behind on state financial reporting carries serious risks for agencies, including state-imposed fines. The county experienced these consequences when reports were submitted past the deadline in 2019-20 and 2020-21. Timely reporting is the most important step toward preventing future impacts.

“This accomplishment reflects the county’s steady progress across all areas of accounting,” said Interim Auditor-Controller Mychal Evenson. “It is a testament to how quickly improvements can be made by implementing generally accepted accounting principles and best practices. While there is still work ahead, I am honored to receive this award on behalf of my team. It is a meaningful accomplishment that demonstrates how far we have come in a very short period of time.”

This award reflects Humboldt County's commitment to accurate and transparent financial reporting and the strengthened culture within the Auditor-Controller's Office, which provides timely, useful accounting and financial reports. The Board of Supervisors will present Evenson and his team with a certificate of recognition for this achievement at its next meeting tomorrow, Tuesday, Nov. 3.

The Financial Transaction Report, published annually by the California State Controller’s Office, provides a centralized resource for the public to understand how their local governments raise and spend funds to support operations. It enhances transparency statewide and relies on clear and accurate data from local agencies to support informed public engagement.
