Yesterday, convicted felon Sergio Frias resolved four cases. Humboldt Superior Court Judge Steven Steward took Frias' pleas. Frias can now enter convicted sex offender to his criminal history.
In CR2501606 Frias pleadex guilty to Counts 3 and 4 and has to register as sex offender. In CR2501607,pleaded guilty to Count 1. He admitted probation violation in CR2401383 and CR2401485.
Deputy District Attorney Carolyn Schaffer is the prosecutor who handled all the cases. Mr. Gregory Kreis is Frias' attorney. Prior coverage has details on charges. I have included court minutes for the two 2025 cases. Sentencing is on 12/5.
12/5/25: Sentencing continued by defense to 12/19 because probation report not received.
12/19/25: Sentencing continued to 3/19/26. Humboldt Superior Court Judge Steven Steward made a referral in Frias' 2025 cases to the Department of Corrections for a PC 1203.03 report.
California Penal Code 1203.03 allows a judge to send a convicted defendant, facing potential state prison time, to a California Department of Corrections (CDC) diagnostic facility for up to 90 days for evaluation before final sentencing, yielding a report with recommendations for probation or prison.
