"I went to every house to campaign to pass Measure Z. I will betrayed and embarrassed if I handed out to other people"

During public comment today  , the message was loud and clear, use Measure Z money for what the citizens were told it would be used for public safety and emergency services.

The  quote in the title was the first speaker during public comment and he is a retired fire chief from the Samoa Peninsula district.

David, from Blue Lake, held up a sign, "repair our roads."

Bob, from Eureka, who spoke next, said, "Measure Z was passed for money directly related to public safety. There are all sorts of needs. We were promised money would be used for public safety. If you give money for things not directly related to public safety, you run risk of alienating voters. I agree roads are in bad shape, get money from the state, not Measure Z money."

Bob wants Measure Z money to be used for the Sheriff, Fire, Rescue , District Attorney, Court, Jail and Witness Protection programs.

Humboldt County Public Defender and Humboldt Teen Court are just two of the applicants for Measure Z funding.

  1. The Courts are the responsibility of the State of California, not the County. It would be inappropriate to spend County tax dollars on our Courts.

  2. Very good point, Allan and I agree. The state wants to release people, reduce prison population, expect courts to provide services but no funds.
