Supreme court divided on contraception mandate? I'll have nun of it"

Excerpt:

It can't be all my way. There has to be an accommodation, and that's what the government tried to do," said Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She said creating an exception for the nuns would open the "floodgates" to make the law unworkable.
But Chief Justice John Roberts repeated the nuns' rhetoric when saying the plaintiff "has used the phrase 'hijacking,' and it seems to me that that's an accurate description of what the government wants to do." He said, "They want to use the mechanism that the Little Sisters and the other petitioners have set up to provide services because they want the coverage to be seamless."
Members of the Little Sisters of the Poor rallied along with their supporters in front of the court Wednesday, many carrying signs and buttons with "I'll Have Nun of It."

  1. The form they have to fill out was suggested in the Hobby Lobby decision. If you want to be a conscientious objector (which is an assertion of a religious freedom) you have to fill out a form. I do not see how filling out a form to state your religious objection violates your religious freedom. Lots of practicing Catholics disobey their church by using contraceptives.

  2. The federal government has overstepped its bounds here. To tell people they have to provide a service which goes against their beliefs is just plain wrong. The government should not be telling Americans (the people) to do something which they believe is immoral based on their religious views. I don't care if some catholics use contraception, that's a far cry from aborting a growing fetus. I myself am not even particularly religious, I haven't attended church since I was a kid, and I still feel abortion should be reserved for times when there is a valid medical reason to do so, and not just because it's an unplanned pregnancy. If you are sexually active, you should realize the consequences of your actions. If you're not ready to be a parent, maybe you should refrain from having sex, or make a very good conscious effort to keep from getting pregnant; it's called "Family planning." I'm not against using contraception, but like I said, for me, aborting a fetus is quite a few rungs up the proverbial ladder from contraception. And why is it called "Rhetoric" when it's a conservative view? The nuns "Rhetoric" vs Ruth Bader Ginsburg's view. Obviously one sided and totally biased.
