DUI alleged in collision with EPD patrol car
On 08/13/15 at about 1:55 a.m., an Officer with the Eureka Police Department was driving west through the intersection of 4th and R Streets with a green light when a male traveling north in a Mitsubishi Gallant ran the red light and collided with the driver side of the patrol car.
Both vehicles sustained major damage and had to be towed from the scene. The Officer and the two occupants of the Gallant were not injured in the collision. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded and took over the investigation.
The driver of the Gallant was identified as David Hernandez, 23 of Mckinleyville. Hernandez displayed signs of alcohol intoxication and was ultimately arrested by CHP for driving under the influence.
