Nick Angeloff, owner of Redwood Empire Services, an economic and business development consulting firm based in Rio Dell, is a candidate for the Second District seat on the Humboldt Bay Harbor, Recreation & Conservation District board of commissioners. Election day is November 3.
In announcing his candidacy Angeloff said, “The Harbor District hasn't updated its strategic plan in years and the harbor is operating at less than 10 percent capacity. As your commissioner, I’ll work with the board to develop an integrated plan in collaboration with the City of Eureka and Humboldt County. It must focus on creating good new harbor jobs and building revenue through increased harbor use. Once the plan is implemented, a more prosperous District will be able to broaden its recreation and conservation programs.”
“This spring, the Board negotiated with a marijuana grower to lease coastal-dependent industrial acreage. Even the Coastal Commission objected to this potential use. The district should focus on its mandated purpose. Rather than speculating, the board should concentrate on increasing shipping and ensure timely, consistent dredging of the harbor by the Army Corps of Engineers. The District needs to serve dock owners and the fishing fleet by keeping the harbor dredged.”
Chairman of the Rio Dell Planning Commission and President of the Rio Dell-Scotia Chamber of Commerce, Angeloff also has been chief executive and economic development director of several northern California tribes. He served as a representative on the Marine Life Protection Act’s Statewide Interest Group and on the National Ocean Policy Working Group. He holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in anthropology.
A Humboldt County resident since 1987, he and his wife live in Rio Dell with their eleven-year-old son.
