Over DA's objection, Judge grants motion to continue jury trial for former Miss Hoopa's alleged sexual abuse case
Trial confirmation was scheduled on June 4 for former Miss Hoopa Kayla Brown's jury trial for alleged sexual abuse of a minor. Jury trial scheduled for June 18 was vacated.
At the last hearing on May 23, Deputy Public Defender Ben McLaughlin said he intended to file a motion to continue. He filed that motion on May 31. It was granted today by Judge John Feeney.
The case is being prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Carolyn Schaffer. The motion to continue was granted over the objection by the DA.
