"It turned out to be a liquid with no explosive capabilities"; CHP arrests man who planted device in Sohum for terroristic threats

Just spoke with Undersheriff William Honsal. CHP was notified that "a subject had planted a device on CAL Fire property on Alderpoint Road. Bomb techs responded. It turned out to be a liquid with no explosive capabilities."

Undersheriff Honsal said that "for safety, the package was exploded in place and evidence collected. It was a homemade package made to look like a bomb."

CHP arrested the man who planted the device for terroristic threats.

There is a second bomb threat at a CAL Fire facility in Crescent City.

Just spoke with  Humboldt County Supervisor for the Second District and Board Chair Estelle Fennell. She said while she had also heard that the man arrested was taken to Sempervirens, "that is unconfirmed."

This situation started last night and the "CAL Fire station had to shelter in place for 5 hours. They contacted the Sheriff  in Eureka, then called the local CHP, who responded and apprehended the suspect."

"I am very grateful that this did not turn out to be a bomb," said Supervisor Fennell. "It was very concerning for me due to the safety of the firefighters who we rely on greatly and also for the safety of the neighborhood."
