If the County of Humboldt expects property owners to maintain their properties, they need to do a better job of setting an example

Took these photos on 4th street in Eureka near the the County IT building on 4th and J and the sidewalk on the 4th street of the Courthouse between I and J. Grass clippings all over the sidewalk and some places on the street. If the County of Humboldt expects property owners to maintain their properties,  they need to do a better job of setting an example. This is a holiday weekend where tourists visit or drive through. I hope this wasn't done by Public Works or one of the many local "landscape lawn services" who don't clean up up after themselves and get paid. If it is the SWAP work crew, they need to come up and take care of their mess without credit. What exactly was used to "mow/cut" the lawn?

Convicted felon Delano Malang whose sentencing was screwed up by Kreis, which then led to a plea, was arrested again by APD for several alleged violent crimes

Convicted felon Delano Malang's bit an Arcata Police Department Sgt and was sentenced to prison. I covered that 2022 case. I also covered his retrial.

Former Humboldt Superior Court ousted judge Gregory Kreis' ruling was reversed on appeal with sentencing errors. Malang was transported back from prison to Humboldt County jail. Retrial was scheduled and at the nth hour, after wasting more time, taxpayer money and court resources, Malang resolved his case with a plea.

Yesterday, Malang was arrested by Arcata Police Department and booked with Julia Gracelynn Yee for PC 211 robbery, PC 207(a) kidnapping, PC 182(a)(1) conspiracy to commit a crime, PC 242 battery, PC 240 assault and PC 647 (f) public intoxication. Yee was also booked for PC 1203.2 (a) probation violation.

This post has links to my prior coverage on Malang.

Since this is Humboldt and since CA legislature is a joke, there will be no consequences for repeat DUI offender Trina Christensen

Trina Marei Christensen was arrested by Fortuna Police Department yesterday for VC 23152(a) DUI, VC 23152(b) driving with a blood alcohol level above the legal limit, VC 23247(e) driving without an ignition interlock device, VC 14601.2(a) driving with a suspended or revoked  license due to a DUI conviction and PC 1203.2(a) probation violation.

All these crimes  could have resulted in more serious consequences including killing or harming someone. These are all misdemeanors due to the joke that is the California legislature and since this is Humboldt; there will be no consequences for Christensen. Most likely, she will just be put back on probation.

19 year old Eric Nelson arrested by EPD for criminal threats and violation of a court order

Defense loses another last minute motion before another judge in the third trial for convicted molestor Steve Boudreaux

I have covered convicted molestor Steve Boudreaux since his arrest in 2024. I have covered his two previous trials. Both resulted in hung juries. Boudreaux was convicted of certain counts; the jury deadlocked on others.

I am not covering his third trial daily or in detail but I am doing update and posts on certain developments.

The third trial has been assigned to Humboldt Superior Court Judge Kaleb Cockrum. Judge April Van Dyke presided over the second trial. Retired Judge John Feeney was the first trial judge.

Deputy District Attorney Whitney Timm is the prosecutor. Deputy Public Defender Casey Russo is Boudreaux's attorney.

Judge Van Dyke denied Mr. Russo's PC 1118.1 motion. Judge Cockrum denied Mr. Russo's motion for a directed verdict.

Boudreaux refused a plea deal before the third trial.

Americans trust in "legacy media" continues to decline

The article online about this poll has more details such as :

Republicans’ confidence, which hasn’t risen above 21% since 2015, has dropped to single digits (8%) for the first time in the trend.

Independents’ trust has not reached the majority level since 2003, and the latest 27% reading matches last year’s historical low.

For Democrats, the narrowest of majorities (51%) now express trust in the media, which is a repeat of the low previously seen in 2016.

Here is a site calling out individual reporters and it lists the the articles, the reporters, the claim, category, the offense, the truth, key points and sources. There are more outlets than just those included in this image.

While most of you are out shopping, EPD is keeping the public safe

Just took this photo outside the Courthouse. Two EPD cars were here. Third officer and vehicle pulled up at 12:30. The third officer just put some belongings in an evidence bag.

The jail log shows David Paul Maxwell was arrested and booked into the Humboldt County jaol for public intoxication jail at 12:29 which matches the time I took the photos and by EPD Officer Nick Jones who is one of the officers in the photos.

If Governor Newsom does not make an appointment for retired Judge Hinrich's seat by the nomination date for the June 2026 election; Humboldt Superior Court Commissioner Sarah Kaber will run for that seat

I just did this post yesterday on Humboldt judicial positions for the June 2026 election.

https://johnchiv.blogspot.com/2025/11/four-humboldt-superior-court-positions.html?m=1

Just now, I received this from Humboldt Superior Court Commissioner Sarah Kaber. As I have reported previously, Commissioner Kaber was one of three original candidates in consideration for appointment by California Gavin Newsom.  I also contacted Governor Newsom's office of judicial appointments and they said they would let me know when a decision is made.

I just received this message from Commissioner Kaber.

"John,

At this time Governor Newsom can still appoint someone to fill the seat left vacant by Judge Hinrichs’ retirement. A gubernatorial appointment would remove that seat from the 2026 election ballot. If no appointment is made by the nomination date I will be running for the seat in the 2026 election.

Sarah Kaber"

I have been privately told by others in the know in the legal community that Commissioner Kaber has the support of Humboldt Superior Court Presiding Judge Kelly Neel. I reported previously that staff and bailiffs have only good things to say about Commissioner Kaber. When there were only 3 original candidates being considered for appointment, I said Commissioner Kaber was the obvious choice based on my observations about her rulings and watching her in court. I do not know if there will be other candidates for that seat but I am sure some other people are mulling their options.

Two members of the Virginia National Guard were shot an hour ago near the White House

Two members of the Virginia National Guard were shot an hour ago in Washington D.C. Governor Patrick Morrisey shared two tweets that there are conflicting reports about their condition.

There is a lot of misinformation out there whether it is small online accounts or legacy media.

Suspect is in custody. FBI Director Kash Patel said the two national guardsmen are in critical condition.

29-year-old Afghan national Rahmanullah Lakanwal, entered the U.S. legally under a humanitarian parole after the withdrawal from Afghanistan, overstayed his visa granted under Operation Allies Welcome and resettled in Bellingham, Washington. Authorities are investigating the shooting as a possible act of international terrorism.

Sarah Beckstrom and Andrew Wolfe were sworn in less than 24 hours before they were shot. These photos of them are from the Department of Justice.

On 11/26, President Trump announced  U.S. Army Specialist Sarah Beckstrom of Summersville, West Virginia, one of the National Guardsmen shot yesterday has passed away.

A judgement in condemnation in July and a final order of condemnation in September entered against Green Diamond et al in eminent domain case

I did a post in September on an eminent domain case filed by the State of California vs Green Diamond Resource Company et al.

A judgement in condemnation was entered in July and a final order of condemnation in September.

EPD arrests Kylie James and warrant will be issued for Henry James, both alleged to have engaged in assault involving a hate crime

Kylie James does not have a Humboldt Superior Court record. She was released on O.R.

I have to wait until charges are filed for this arrest but a search for Henry Robert James comes up with 42 searches in Humboldt Superior Court. I also searched Facebook, Google and Megan's Law. I will not add any information until I verify this is the same person.

Four Humboldt Superior Court positions are up for re-election and include three current judges

(Photo I took at the reception after Judge Neel was sworn in)

(Judge Canning: credit Paul Swenson photography)

The Statewide Primary Election June 2, 2026 has key County and Judicial races. I have already posted that the two Humboldt Board of Supervisors positions open are in the 4th District and  5th District. Incumbent 4th District Supervisor Natalie Arroyo is running for reelection. Four Humboldt Superior Court positions are up for re-election and include three current judges.

Humboldt Superior Court Presiding Judge Kelly Neel District 7/Courtroom 7; Humboldt Assistant Presiding Judge District 4/Courtroom 4; District 6 is for Courtroom 6 which has been vacant since Judge Joyce Hinrichs retired early and District 3 is Judge Kaleb Cockrum who is currently assigned to Courtoom 1.

Judge Lawrence Killoran was re-elected in the June 2024 primary and his term runs until 2030 so he is not up for re-election next year.

The Humboldt Elections Department Districts are based on the original seats and do not always match up with the current Humboldt Superior Court assignments of courtrooms asin Judge Cockrum's case.

I may have a few scoops related to the judges positions so stay tuned.

SCOTUS did not act today on challenges to President Trump's executive order seeking to end birthright citizenship

Per SCOTUSblog, "The Supreme Court did not act on Monday on the challenges to President Donald Trump’s Jan. 20  executive order seeking to end birthright citizenship – the guarantee of citizenship to almost everyone born in the United States. The court will likely consider the cases again at their private conference on Friday, Dec. 5; if it does, it could announce as soon as that afternoon whether it has granted review.

The court’s decision to reconsider the government’s petition for review at its next conference is  a procedure known as a “relist."

Another press release by Newsom's office on judicial appointments and Humboldt Superior Court is MIA again

California Governor Gavin Newsom announced his appointment of six Superior Court Judges. One in Kings County, one in Los Angeles County, one in Orange County, one in Santa Clara County, one in Shasta County and one in Sutter County.

Thank you Judge Killoran for watching out for public safety and taxpayer dollars; convicted felon Kip Branson and his attorney should have agreed to a resolution months ago instead of wasting time with this mental health diversion tactic

(2022 booking photo)

I have covered criminal threats and domestic violent suspect and convicted felon Kip Branson extensively. The alleged victim in the 2025 case is the mother of his daughter.

In a small community, disqualifying judges can be personal, political or valid reasons

I have covered Humboldt Superior Court for 12 years. I have lived in Humboldt County for 21 years. When I see 170.6 disqualifications by certain attorneys, whether it is prosecutors, defense attorneys or private attorneys; who never disqualify certain judges but have an issue with certain judges; it takes a while to figure out whether it is personal, political or for valid reasons.

It is too early to tell in the lawsuit filed by Michael Luna against Fortuna High School District why Humboldt Superior Court Judge April Van Dyke was disqualified by Mr. Nick Kloeppel who is the lawyer for Fortuna Union High and Carlton Floyd attorney for Michael Luna who disqualified Judge Timothy Canning. Since the case was filed on 10/8/25, not much has happened except disqualifications and a hearing on a petition on the court calendar on 11/14/25 which was continued to 12/5 by Judge Lawrence Killoran who just received file that morning.

This case is very low on my list of priorities and just from the initial documents filed and failed to get me interested at this point. Anyone can file a lawsuit. What is newsworthy is that these two attorneys whose names frequently appear in many cases involving the government chose to disqualify these two particular judges?

I have included court documents.

As a thank you to Allan and many others, this pay it forward ad is how I plan to celebrate Thanksgiving

I am making an exception for this specific GoFund me and also donating part of prime ad space on my blog for the rest of November and part of December 2025 for the following reasons.

It is for a local former HCSO Deputy and veteran. I appreciate the brave men and women who serve our country and our local law enforcement in the ranks do not make a lot of money.

Mr. Allan Dollison, former Humboldt Deputy DA and private attorney, now one of the top lawyers in LA in his field and a fellow veteran paid me and it was supposed to be for subscription and as a thank you for my independent reporting.

While we were talking, Allan passed on information for a news post. "Jeremy Voris  who is a friend of mine, a fellow former Army Soldier and former HCSO Deputy is dealing with a tragedy. His wife had a cardiac arrest and is not expected to live. "

Allan knows the struggles I face making a living in a Humboldt County and the hard earned money I do make is lost fighting petty people and retaliation in Humboldt who have an issue with my factual reporting and use their connections to try and silence me.

While I could use this money for the most basic essentials, Jeremy's need is greater. There have been a few people who have consistently supported me in Humboldt and never turned their back on me. As a thank you to them, Allan and because of Mark 12:41-44 I spoke with Allan and asked if I could use this subscription money instead as a pay it forward ad for Jeremy and I would donate the balance.  There is no way I can repay Allan or the many others who have consistently been there for me.

Why I chose that particular scripture is not something I will share. Those it is meant for; will know.

Local communities, neighbors and the good in Humboldt and America needs to be highlighted more and stay tuned for more content highlighting the positive.

20 year old Seamus Clancy arrested by APD for forcible rape, unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and two other sex charges involving a minor

20 year old Seamus Charles Clancy was arrested by Arcata Police Department yesterday on a Ramey warrant and booked PC 288.4(b) meeting with a minor for lewd purposes; PC 288.3 (a) contacting a minor to commit a felony , PC 261.5(c) unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and PC 261(a)(2) forcible rape. Bail at booking is $1 million, 500 thousand.

I did a google search but without verification from law enforcement, court records or a verifiable source;  at this time, I am not mentioning any other possible connection about Clancy that is Humbolt related or of interest.

11/26/25: DA filed charges today;  Clancy was arraigned. Clancy has retained Ms. Andrea Sullivan. Humboldt County Deputy District Attorney Victoria Reierstad appeared on the case for arraignment. OR bail on 12/2; preliminary hearing on 1/14/26.

Judge Cockrum terminates John Ford's probation citing CA law and not due to defense motion; this despite former insurance agent still owing victims $313, 115.23

Former insurance agent John Ford was sentenced on September 24, 2020. after he pleaded guilty to one count of PC 503, embezzlement.

Originally he was charged with 14 counts. As a part of his plea, he agreed to full restitution for all victims. Ford agreed not to practice insurance sales in California for the period of probation. He forfeited his license. I covered his case in 2019 from start to conclusion.

On 11/14/25,  Humboldt Superior Court Judge Kaleb Cockrum denied defense's PC 1203.3 motion which was a formal legal request to terminate probation early but stated that due to change in California law, probation would be terminated. Ford still owes $313, 115.23 in restitution. The only victim who attends every hearing is Thomas Mulder.

I had some California lawyers reach out to me about Judge Cockrum's ruling. "The Judge messed up on Ford on AB 1950," said one lawyer. Those lawyers said that most felony convictions now have a maximum probation term of two years but with high-value embezzlement; specifically cases involving more than 25k, there is a an exception and still have a longer probation period, potentially up to three years." I did my own research and the link below supports what I was told by these lawyers but goes further that AB 1950 does not apply in an embezzlement case.

"AB 1950 does not apply to theft, embezzlement, fraud, and other similar offenses if they resulted in losses of over $25,000."

https://cjmdefense.com/blog/california-assembly-bill-1950-limits-probation-terms/

Humboldt Deputy District Attorney Trent Timm appeared on the case for the People. Deputy Public Defender Ben McLaughlin is Ford's attorney. I have included court minutes.
