Here is the actual text of the Indiana Religious Freedom Bill; instead of hype, decide for yourself

These are just two links to the Indiana religious freedom law. In the second link, Indiana Governor Pence said that the media is mischaracterizing the Indiana religious freedom bill.

Here is the text:

A key word in the text is "substantially burdened". That could mean different things to different people. Some media is just reprinting hype and emotions, what helps is the text , so decide for yourself.

  1. For my entire adult life, right wing bigots have used people's homophobia as a kind of dog whistle to get folks riled up. Now, it would appear that the tipping point has been reached, and people are sick and tired of the homophobia. But the dog whistle's remain. And you are surprised people notice? Don't be -- I can assure you that gay people will do everything we can to leave the right wing religious bigots stuck wearing their unfashionable beliefs in public.

    1. Mitch, you are reading something into my post that may make sense to you, not me. I posted the text and asked people to make up their own mind. This post is not pro one opinion over another, it is about people on both sides spouting off based on a law they have not read. There are bigots of all kinds. The gay community does not have an exclusivity when it comes to discrimination. Your generalization and use of right-wing to label a group with a broad characterization is also bigotry.

    2. John,

The only generalization I am making is that people who object to providing equal service to their gay customers are bigoted. You're going to need to clarify for me how that generalization is bigoted, John. I don't see it.

It is perfectly possible, as I'm sure you know, to be supremely religious and still bake a cake for a gay wedding. All loving God will not send you to hell for that.

    3. Mitch, you are intelligent. Maybe you don't want to see. I am not going to spend time getting into a debate with your circular argument with you.

You are entitled to your opinion but a conversation is two people listening and talking. I plan to enjoy a rare free evening. You have made your mind up that the only issue with a law in another state is all the fault of right wing, religious bigots. Tolerance is only required by right wingers while you can insult religion and all right wingers. No gay person or left leaning liberal ever set up somene with a frivolous lawsuit by misrepresenting the situation. That would never happen.

    4. So Mitch, do you see now when your argument is flipped around with different labels, how it sounds. Asking someone to read text of a law is asking people to make an informed opinion.

    5. John,

I have no objection to anyone suggesting that others read the text of a law. I have no objection to your doing so.

I was referring in my comment to dog whistles. You know what they are. I am not saying you were issuing one. I was saying, and I continue to believe, that Indiana's lawmakers were blowing one. And I was saying that, now that US attitudes have changed for the better, more people know when the dog whistle is being blown, and more people are willing to step forward and say, "hey, you're just riling up the bigots."
