Gratitude and prayer for schools, public safety, jobs and help for homeless featured at Humboldt Prayer Breakfast

It's a packed room for breakfast and prayer at the Elk's Lodge. Channel 3, only media here, filmed briefly.

Almost 200 business members, elected officials, community members from different faiths attend the event. Recognizing Karen Brooks and her organization of the event, Mayor Frank Jager compared standing up for your faith to a battle. "The flag bearer goes in and someone else picks it up and carries it on. I went down because of lawsuits, couldn't do this in Eureka. Karen took the initiative and carried the flag."

Then lightening the mood, Mayor Jager said that he is not "an early morning person. Karen said our first miracle is getting me up" and here.

In addition to those pictured here, Eureka Police Chief Andy Mills, HSU Chief of Police Donn Peterson who was the keynote speaker, First District Supervisor Rex Bohn, Fortuna Mayor Sue Long ,business members Mike Newman and Greg Pierson attended the event.

The first prayer was for Humboldt Mayors and Council. The Mayors had identified specific concerns which included decrease in property crimes, wisdom in dealing with sea level rise snd climate change, housing and care for seniors, help for homeless and economic growth. Pastor Matt Messner lead that prayer.

Pastor Messner asked for God to "help us reach thd hearts of people, one person at a time."

There were also specific prayers for schhols and educators, prayer for public service and safety, prayer for business and economic development, prayer for faith based organizations and prayer for families and community. People in the audience who belonged to each group were asked to stand when that group which reflected the diversity and showed people of faith are those you see every day in all walks of life.

Each prayer leader quoted scripture. Teen suicide,  struggles of "those in the grip that alcohol have on people that causes them to commit crimes" were highlighted.

Chief Peterson's favorite scripture is also mine.  Isiah 6:8. He also referred to John Adams. "What guided him was the fate of his eternal soul." He addressed thd leaders and said while it was good to listen go their constituents and what the law says, when they make decisions, they should wonder "what will the Heavenly Father say?" He gave special thanks to Chieg Mills, HCSO Undersherrif Bill Honsal and CHP's Adam Jager.
